Does Coffee Cause Osteoporosis?

Past studies conducted in the 1970s showed that coffee drinking could contribute to osteoporosis, but most recently, those studies have been proven false.

Individuals most at risk for osteoporosis are females and elderly men over 70, those who don't exercise, smokers, excessive drinkers, those who are already deficient in calcium, and those with a genetic history of osteoporosis. However, coffee drinking in moderation only dispels trace amounts of calcium from the body that has no impact on developing osteoporosis.

If you want to contribute to your health and prevent osteoporosis, then increase calcium in your diet, strength train to increase your bone density, and enjoy coffee in moderation! Coffee is a beverage that, when consumed on a regular basis, will prevent disease and premature aging.

Can Babies Have Coffee?

If this is a burning question on your mind, the short answer is that it is not recommended for babies to have coffee. The main reason behind this is not that it will not stunt their growth, which is an old wives tale, but that it will disrupt their sleep patterns.

When coffee drinking was tested on baby rats, they showed fragmented sleep patterns and a faster breathing rate, resulting in less sleep. As a pregnant or breast-feeding mother, there is nothing wrong with drinking coffee in moderation at up to 3 cups per day, but it should not be directly given to the infant or drank in excess.

Coffee provides a number of disease fighting benefits, so it is recommended to be enjoyed regularly in moderation, but children should wait to enjoy it until they are older!

Quick Tips For Coffee Roasting in a Popcorn Popper

One of the best things that you can do as a coffee lover is learn how to roast your beans at home in a hot air popcorn popper. Here are some tips to get you started:

Choose an inexpensive hot air popcorn popper, but understand that using it to roast beans will void its warranty.
• Buy green coffee beans in bulk from the Internet to save money in the long run.
• Work in a well ventilated area in case the beans smoke or blow off chaff.
• Use the amount of green coffee beans recommended by the manufacturer of your hot air popcorn popper to stick to safety standards.
• Check the beans often to determine their color and texture.
• Roast for around two minutes for a lighter roast after the first crack of the beans, and roast for up to six minutes for a darker roast after the second crack of the coffee beans.

Has American Coffee Gone South?

A recent consumer report rated 37 different American coffee blends available on the market, only to find that none of them were able to score as high as "Excellent" or "Very Good". What gives?

Interestingly enough, one of the highest scoring American coffee blends was the Starbucks House Blend at a mediocre rating of "Good". An American coffee blend constitutes a combination of coffee beans from at least two different growing regions all over the world. The problem is that many American roasters have started using cheaper Robusta beans within their blends to save costs, which often impacts the taste of the coffee blend for the worse.

If you hope to preserve the integrity of your cup of Joe, then make sure to purchase whole beans, grind them fresh, and look for roasts that are made with 100% Arabica coffee beans to promote flavor.

Is Collagen in Coffee Good For You?

Nescafé is one of the latest coffee producers on the market to introduce collagen into their cup of Joe. This 3in1 collagen beverage is only available in Asia at this point, but it claims to include collagen to reduce wrinkles in the skin.

The jury is still out as to whether ingesting collagen will make a significant difference in plumping and firming the skin. Collagen is the substance underneath the skin that keeps it firm and soft, and it begins to deteriorate as you age. The truth is that you may be better off using coffee as a topical beauty ingredient if you want to see anti aging benefits, but don't neglect the fact that coffee in itself is full of antioxidants that can prevent wrinkles and disease!

Recent research has proven that coffee bean extract has a higher capability of absorbing free radical damage in the skin than even green tea extract! This means significantly less wrinkles and an even more beautiful complexion for you...

How Does Coffee Benefit The Skin?

If you have been shopping for beauty products lately, you may have noticed that many contain coffee as a leading ingredient. Here is why:

Coffee contains antioxidants, which are necessary to topically treat the complexion and neutralize any damage below the surface. This prevents premature wrinkles!
• The caffeine in coffee can be used within beauty products as a vasodilator to constrict blood vessels. This works to treat rosacea by reducing redness in the skin.
• The caffeine in coffee can also be used to treat cellulite because it tightens the skin and pushes water from the surface to eliminate the cottage cheese effect.
• Coffee is used well in soap because it also neutralizes stubborn odors, like garlic, fish, and onions.

Does Coffee Dehydrate You?

This is a very interesting question with a serious amount of misinformation circulating. A study was done in 2002 by Lawrence Armstrong to prove that regular caffeine consumption in coffee does not have any effect on dehydrating the body, even compared to regularly drinking water!

This is wonderful news for coffee drinkers because moderate coffee consumption will not work to severely dehydrate you or work as a diuretic. Even better, the more coffee that you regularly drink, the more tolerant you will be to its mild diuretic effects on the body.

Last of all, make sure that you are focusing on moderate coffee consumption because that is the key. Excessive caffeine can cause anxiety, insomnia, and jitteriness, but it does not negatively affect the body when consumed in moderation. That's great news for all coffee drinkers out there!
