Can You Drink Coffee When You Are Pregnant?

If you are a mom-to-be who is also a coffee lover, then you may be asking yourself this same question. Studies have shown that it is definitely safe for pregnant women to enjoy coffee in moderation, meaning up to 3 cups per day.

There were past studies that showed rats to have serious side effects from in taking caffeine during their pregnancies, but you do need to keep in mind that humans metabolize caffeine much differently than rodents do. Also, the amount of coffee that the rats were given was equivalent to almost 70 cups a day for a human!

If you do want to be incredibly safe in your pregnancy, then you can still enjoy delicious decaf coffee. Decaf coffee has come a long way in flavor and taste, and it is recommended to look for coffee that is decaffeinated through the Swiss Water Process. This is a much more natural method of decaffeination that does not use chemicals to remove the caffeine from the coffee beans.
