Where Did Coffee Come From?

What an important question! If you are passionately sipping your coffee every single morning, then it is important that you learn more about your delicious brew. Right now, 65 countries worldwide are producing coffee, and the only state in the US to do so is Hawaii. Puerto Rico also does produce coffee, which is a United States territory. Japan is stepping up their game by being the third largest coffee drinking country in the world, and they have their own Coffee Day on October 1, which is a national holiday for them. I'm jealous! Why isn't America on board with that?

1400 million cups of coffee are enjoyed worldwide every single day, and the history of coffee has been going on for over 700 years. You may feel like coffee houses are a truly popular cultural staple in our country, but they were originally banned in England by King Charles II who thought that people were using them to plot against him. This probably was not too far off the mark since we still gather at coffee houses today to talk, socialize, and discuss business. One last little tidbit, Americans appear to be drinking their coffee more naturally, since only 30% of them prefer to use a sweetener, compared to 57% of English coffee drinkers that sweeten their coffee.
So where does your coffee come from? It's good to know a little bit more info behind your cup of Joe so that you can sit back and enjoy your brew. Life is good...

What Do You Know About Coffee?

You may feel like you are well acquainted with your morning cup of Joe, but I have some awesomely fun facts about Java to share with you that you may have never heard before.

Did you know?

  • In ancient times, grooms in Turkey were required to vow to their new wife that they would always give her coffee, or else they would get divorced!
  • Your body can only absorb up to 4 cups of coffee at once, and the rest is dispensed as waste.
  • Japan is actually the third largest coffee consumer in the world, and they use coffee grounds for beauty treatments, like bathing and skin care.
  • The name "coffee" was actually originally used for wine because it looked black from dark berries, and it was then substituted when coffee was used instead of wine to stay awake in religious all night prayer meetings, and the name stuck with it.
  • Olympic athletes can only drink up to 5 cups of coffee because their urine is tested for specific amounts of caffeine, or else they will be disqualified.
  • Espresso has one third of the caffeine of a regular cup of Joe.
  • We all refer to coffee beans as "beans", but they are truly berries.

How many of these fun facts did you already know? There is truly so much more to your daily cup of Joe than meets the eye!

The Vast Flavors of Hawaii Coffee

The odds are by now that you have probably tasted a rich cup of Kona coffee, but the options in Hawaiian coffee are expanding so that you have so many more choices than before. Hawaii is actually the only country in the US that currently produces coffee, and Kona used to be the only coffee producing region in Hawaii. Now there are so many more coffee producing regions in Hawaii that popped up over the past several decades, and they are popular because they do produce premium Arabica beans, which have been shown to be much higher quality and more popular than the lesser Robusta beans. Obviously, the conditions for harvesting coffee in Hawaii are favorable because of the humidity, rich soil, and tropical environment, so you can expect a different taste to arise from the bean. The methods of processing for the coffee currently being used in Hawaii are wet fermentation, dry fermentation, and dry processing. The point of the matter is that there are so many things to take into consideration when selecting a premium Hawaiin coffee, and I recommend that you start out with the Kona Coffee Beans Volcanic Estate which have a medium body with a higher acidity and smooth finish. Mahalo!

Drivers Given Coffee Coupons For Seatbelt Safety

I have to say that I am finally so pleased that policeman in Ohio are jumping into a delightful trend of rewarding drivers with coffee coupons for driving with their seatbelts on. This is happening on the Ohio Turnpike where policeman will give drivers wearing seat belts a free coupon for a cup of coffee from either McDonald's, Burger King, or Hardee's in the Turnpike plaza simply because they were obeying the law. This is so much better than just getting pulled over and given a ticket, and hopefully this positive reinforcement will start changing the minds of drivers everywhere to be more safe by wearing a seatbelt whilst they are sipping their quality cup of Joe. Hopefully, this is something that catches on to all of the United States because I would love to be handed a cup of coffee just for being a good citizen!

Vietnam: Number 2 in Coffee Production?

Yes, it actually is true, even though Vietnam is not normally one of the countries that you hear about the top of the coffee harvesting lists. Number one is Brazil, and number two is Vietnam, though Vietnam primarily does export Robusta coffee beans. Robusta is not preferred by coffee connoisseurs because it is the cheaper variety with higher caffeine content to the more premium Arabica, but currently, Vietnam is working to boost their coffee economy to get the number one spot by cultivating Arabica plantations. Their future hopes are for Arabica to account for at least a third of their crops by 2010. They are in a tough spot, especially since they have been blamed for pushing mass amounts of Robusta onto the market so that coffee prices have dropped worldwide, but they are working to remedy that and get back on top by keeping labor costs low and technological advancements high to hopefully get to number one!

What's So Great About a French Press?

Have you figured out the ins and outs of your coffee brewing yet? Then you must try the French Press! If you have any mysterious ideas about it being more difficult or tedious to use than a traditional coffee maker, then you, my friend, are dead wrong, and that is great news for you! A French press works by you placing coarsely ground fresh coffee beans in the bottom of the pot (and it is usually clear), and then you will add hot water. I advise you not to add boiling water since this could burn the beans. After that, you will place the lid on it, and you will let it steep for up to four minutes. From that point, you will plunge down the strainer directly so that you don't let any grounds escape, and you have a final coffee product that is delicious and decadent. And why is that? Well, for one thing, you have saved all of the essential oils that have not been removed through a paper filter so that your brew tastes amazing. Another thing, it is eco-friendly because you are not using paper filters that you throw away every day. And finally, for all of you type A coffee lovers, you can have total control of your brewing process by deciding the temperature of the water, the extraction time, and how long the grounds are saturated. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!

Dunkin' Run: iPhone App For Coffee Fanatics

Yes, the true love of coffee and technology do go hand-in-hand, especially when you download the Dunkin' Run iPhone app that enables you to alert your friends when you are on the way to Dunkin' Donuts. They will receive an alert via e-mail, and then they can be prompted to log into the website at www.dunkinrun.com so that they can then place their own order, like adding a medium cup of Joe and a jelly doughnut to your own. This order will then be alerted back to you so that you can have the full list of all of the coffees and doughnuts that you need to bring with you to work for all of your colleagues. This gives a whole new meaning to the coffee run, and the app also has a buddy list and a store finder to make your life easier. I am all for any kind of technology that will help me get my morning coffee fix. And hopefully all of your friends that you are getting coffee for will return the favor!

How Do You Make Turkish Coffee?

This is a global coffee flavor that you must try, and it is surprisingly easy to make Turkish coffee! You will need a small Turkish coffee pot that has a handle that you can hold over your stove.

  • Begin by adding water to the Turkish coffee pot.
  • You will then add very finely ground coffee, even finer than an espresso grind.
  • Add these fresh grounds to your water, and heat over your stove on medium heat, stirring well until it comes to a boil.
  • Serve immediately in small Turkish coffee cups that hold about 2 ounces. The grounds will sink to the bottom of the cup.
  • After the grounds have sunk to the bottom of the cup, you can drink the delicious brew, but don't drink the coffee grounds sitting in the bottom!

The coffee grounds that remain in the bottom of your cup after drinking were often traditionally used to tell your fortune by flipping over your cup to see what pattern it makes. Either way, I can tell that a delicious cup of Turkish coffee is in your future!

Which Is Better: Coffee or Tea?

This is a very interesting argument, especially since we have loyal drinkers on both sides of the fence. Of course, you can put two and two together and know that I am going to say coffee, but let's look at some facts.

Originally, tea was enjoyed by the early colonists that came from England, but they ended up shunning the drink as they gained independence from Britain because it signified the traditions of their old country. As numerous other countries all over the world began exporting coffee, America became one of the biggest importers in the 1800s, which is why coffee is always signified when people think of American culture.

England and Asian cultures still are loyal to tea drinking, and both beverages have numerous antioxidants that work to prevent disease and the onset of age. Right now, coffee is the number one drink that Americans are getting their antioxidants from every single day to prevent type II diabetes, cirrhosis of the liver, and Parkinson's. You can also get a weight-loss benefit through coffee from the metabolism boost from caffeine when you enjoy it sporadically throughout the day.

So which drink is right for you? All I can say, with my large amount of bias, is think of all of the advanced ways that you can enjoy coffee and explore brewing options at home. For me the victory is in just thinking about a steaming, dark, rich cup of Joe. Mmm...

What Are the Benefits of Organic Coffee?

Coffee lovers, this is a fantastic question because the benefits of drinking Organic are many! What constitutes coffee to be certified by the USDA as Organic? First, the farmer must have refrained from using harmful pesticides and chemicals for three years, and he or she must also practice crop rotation to keep the soil from being stripped from nutrients or eroded. After this point, the US Department of Agriculture will certify the coffee as Organic. This means that you will be getting better flavors because pesticides have not stunted the growth of the bean, so it can be bigger and more fuller in its flavor profile. Also, you can drink to your own health because the lack of chemical used in the Organic coffee harvesting will keep your health from being damaged, and it will also protect the environment. So many reasons to drink Organic! Enjoy a guilt free cup of Joe.

How To Make a Bad Cup of Coffee Taste Good

This is something that you absolutely need to know because you will be faced with a bad, weak, or bitter cup of Joe many times in your lifetime. I want to share with you a few tips that will help you to improve the flavor right away:

  • Add salt: Add a pinch of salt to your brewed coffee if it is bitter, or brew the coffee grounds beforehand with salt to cut out the bitterness.
  • Make a fresh pot: If you find yourself stuck in your office drinking bad coffee, then consider making a fresh pot because who knows how long it's been sitting out?
  • Brew using filtered water: Use filtered water anytime that you brew to cut out the bad taste of minerals from tap water that will also affect the function of your machine.
  • Brew with cinnamon: This is another great trick for sprucing up office coffee because if you brew the coffee grounds with cinnamon beforehand, then the final flavor will be masked by a sweet cinnamon taste.
  • Use hot chocolate: If you are out and about drinking a bad cup of coffee, then you can simply add a packet of instant hot chocolate with creamer so that it tastes more like a mocha.

These are just a few simple tips to help you out in your time of need with a bad or bitter cup of Joe, and I would love to hear some of your own ideas for improving bad coffee!

Coffee Shops Give Discount To Ceramic Cups

This is a really interesting concept because more and more coffee shops all over the world are rewarding their patrons for being eco-friendly and green in their pursuit of coffee drinking. They are now giving price breaks to many of their customers who bring in their own ceramic cups so that they can save on throwing away excess trash for disposable paper cups. The only glitch in it is that some people are arguing that it takes so much more energy to make a ceramic coffee mug, so you have to use it over 1,000 times to equal out the energy that is used in making a paper cup. Lucky for me, I definitely use my ceramic coffee cup thousands of times, so I'm in the clear. I can wager to guess that most other coffee drinkers are the same way, due to their fanatic Java love. Other than that, consider looking for Fair Trade and Organic coffee beans that are harvested in eco-friendly ways without the use of pesticides, and also with fair wages for the coffee harvesters. This is a great way to drink a guilt free cup of Joe that is not only delicious but green as well!

Coffee To Boost Pre-Workout Testosterone

If you are a male looking to enhance your workout, then you may want to consider downing a cup of coffee prior to it because it will boost your testosterone by 61%. What this means for you is that you will be able to build more muscle, build stronger bones, and reduce body fat, all because of the fact that coffee is going to spike your levels of testosterone so that you can workout harder. Coffee is also perfect to drink prior to a workout, regardless of your sex, because it will block chemicals that cause soreness and inflammation in your muscles for a higher performance. One of the other great factors of drinking the caffeine in coffee is that it releases dopamine, which is a feel-good chemical, into your brain so that you feel happy and rewarded. It will also cause adrenaline to be rushed into your body through the adrenal glands so you will be totally pumped to workout. If you factor in all of these awesome benefits, then you better start brewing up a shot of espresso prior to your workout every time! Perfect.

Coffee is Back At the Top of the List For Health Benefits!

Coffee used to be completely avoided by so many health fanatics, but it lately has been discovered that there was no reason for coffee to have a bad reputation such as this. The benefits of drinking coffee in moderation will be that you are less likely to have colon cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, Parkinson's disease, or type II diabetes. Coffee also is full of antioxidants that work to neutralize free radicals in your skin to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. Awesome! On the list of foods that are no longer bad for you are eggs, even though they have a high cholesterol content, but they will also give you high amounts of protein and iron. Alcohol can again be enjoyed in moderation in up to one drink per day, with it preferably being red wine because it prevents clogged arteries and gives you antioxidants. Regular sugar is also something that can be a part of your diet in moderation because studies have found out that using sugar substitutes will not provide you with any different health benefits than using sugar itself. So mystery solved! Cook yourself up an egg, and enjoy a steaming cup of Joe sweetened with real sugar! Life is good again...

Use Coffee in Cooking

Of course, I am sure that you have had the brilliant idea to begin integrating coffee and espresso into your deserts because it makes such a delicious addition. For instance, you can add espresso to cheesecake, angel food cake, or even create your own coffee ice cream! But a greater way to enjoy the deep complexities of Java is to begin to use it in the savory cooking items. If you add strong coffee or a shot of espresso to a braise for pork or beef, then you will notice a difference. The secret is to not overdo it with the coffee flavors because they should add to the dish, but not overpower it. Many chefs also use freshly ground coffee in their herb or spice rubs for meat like a pork tenderloin to bring out succulent flavors. You may also want to add espresso or coffee to a sweet sauce like a barbecue sauce since it already has the smoky and rich flavors to support the taste. Be creative in adding coffee to your cooking because you never know how much more you can get out of your everyday cup of Joe!

This means that you can kick back and just enjoy a fresh macchiato while celebrating your wedding. This is also an awesome idea for corporate events or other types of parties because it adds a completely fun atmosphere with an Italian twist since the catering companies will often provide stations for Italian sodas, teas, and even granitas. Buying Green Coffee Beans For Home Roasting

If you are already buying pre-roasted coffee beans, then the next step in your Java journey is to explore home roasting options by purchasing fresh green coffee beans. The only other premium way to enjoy your coffee is by purchasing from a retailer that provides fresh roasted coffee the day it ships to you, like I do on my site. Otherwise, your beans will be pretty much stale by the time they get to you so you are missing out on so much flavor and aroma. To buy green coffee beans cheap and fresh, make sure that you buy them in bulk at about 5 pounds, and it is best to purchase them online so that you get a better price, like the Puerto Rico Green Arabica Coffee Beans 5 lb. From there, you can roast them at home in a hot air popcorn popper or on your stovetop so that you have complete control of what type of roast you are creating. It will truly bring out your creative side, and give you some pride in your cup of Joe!

Starbucks Recalls Faulty Coffee Grinders!

This is probably a nightmare to all of you coffee drinkers out there, but Starbucks had a blade grinder that was being sold in both Starbucks and Seattle's Best Coffee shops for over seven years that had the issue of turning on by itself. This means that there were a few people that actually reached into clean their grinder and were lacerated when it turned on and cut them with the blades. This is like a bad coffee drinking nightmare where your appliances turn against you, so if you have this type of grinder called the "Barista Blade Grinder", then you can turn it back in to Starbucks to get a new one. Another great tip for all of you grinders of the fine coffee bean is to make sure that you completely unplug your appliances before cleaning them in case there is some kind of glitch where the mechanics of the machine can harm you. Other than that, keep on grinding because that is the best way to enjoy a fresh brew!

Starbucks Now Has Instant Coffee?

Oh, yes, and Nescafé is not happy at all. I don't blame them either because Starbucks already dominates the complete coffee market in the US, and Nescafé has made their own name in producing instant coffee. The new Starbucks instant coffee is called Via, and it is currently available in London, Chicago, and Seattle. It comes in single serving packets and is sold in sets of three or twelve, and it will be available online later in the year. Nescafé actually launched several ad war campaigns in the same cities of Chicago and Seattle where Via is available that looked like a direct attack on Starbucks because the ads used the same format and font. Hopefully they get the results that they are looking for since it has been proven that attacking ads do boost sales completely. Nescafé is pointing out the fact that Starbucks is producing the same type of instant coffee at four times the cost of what they charge. Only time will tell who wins this war with dominating in instant coffee, and all I can tell you is that Americans love convenience so this should be another popular product produced by Starbucks.

The Taste of Kenyan Coffee

Kenya is a leading region for coffee production, so I am sure that you have had the opportunity to see the type of coffee beans that are produced from Kenya. But have you had the pleasure of tasting them? The flavor profile of the Kenyan coffee beans is clean and bright because they are wet processed to remove all four layers that surround the coffee bean and preserve the acidity. Each fresh cup will have a full body, deep aroma, and intense flavor that signifies it being from this region. If you have seen the grade AA used to describe the beans it is because they are scaled according to their size after they have been milled, with AA being the largest bean and showing that it is the highest quality. I recommend that you specifically look for the Kenya Coffee Beans AA to get the freshest and most authentic flavor of a region with deep soil fertility that cultivates the acidity of the bean itself. What are you waiting for?

Is Caffeine Good For You?

Another great coffee related question. We all know that coffee has a high amount of caffeine in it, so if you are concerned about how caffeine may be affecting your health, then I am here to tell you the 411. Firstly, caffeine is great for people suffering from asthma or migraine headaches. Caffeine is a bronchodilator so it will alleviate symptoms of wheezing or chest tightening, and it also works to stop the effects of migraines. On the flipside, you may experience a caffeine withdrawal headache if you cut it out of your life cold turkey, so be sure to enjoy your coffee in moderation. It is also possible to overdo it with your caffeine consumption, causing you calcium depletion, anxiety issues, or high blood pressure. The answer to the question is moderation, moderation, moderation! If you curb your Java consumption to up to 4 cups a day, then you will be on the road to great health because coffee and caffeine have numerous wellness benefits to offer you. Hurrah!

Which Coffee Grinder is Right For You?

If you are on the lookout for a premium coffee grinder, then you may feel confused by all of the options. I am going to give you a quick rundown of which types are available, and what to look for so you can enjoy a fresh brew fast.

  • Blade Grinder: This is the perfect type for a traditional drip brew coffeemaker for your home use since it grinds incredibly fast and can produce a medium grind for that type of brewing. The only complaint is that it is sometimes inconsistent, so you may not want to use it for a fine espresso grind.
  • Burr Grinder: This is also a fast grinder that works by grinding more evenly from a fine to a coarse consistently. They are priced well, and they will give you great value for your money. It works faster than the more expensive conical burr grinder.
  • Conical Burr Grinder: This is actually the preferred choice in grinders because it will be completely consistent, and it works the slowest to keep your beans at a low heat so that they do not burn and affect the taste. You will be able to achieve a completely fine espresso grind, or any other grind for your liking.

So which grinder is right for you? Check out based on price, quality, and delivery, but know that if you are already freshly grinding your coffee beans, then you are one step ahead in achieving the best and most decadent flavors compared to the pre-ground varieties. You win!

Barack O Blend: Patriotic Coffee

Have you sipped the Barack O Blend by Kona Joe Coffee yet? If you feel like your daily cup of Joe is not nearly patriotic enough, then there is an easy way to remedy that. The blend itself comes from premium beans from Hawaii, Kenya, and Indonesia, which if you don't know the rich history of Obama's journey to presidency, all of those countries are completely significant in his life. The Hawaiian beans were chosen because that is his native state, his father was from Kenya, and he spent his childhood in Indonesia. Kona Joe Coffee carefully selected each country of origin because they already provide delicious coffee beans, and they are significant to Obama's presidency. Now, the coffee itself is not red, white, and blue, but it is a great way to honor your country while drinking delicious Java. Thank you, Uncle Sam!

Canned Coffee: Let's Take a Tip From Japan

I have never personally visited Japan myself, but I am hearing more and more about the canned coffee that is dispensed in many of their public areas. Apparently, you can get it hot or cold, and it is fast and easy, anytime you would like! This type of vending machine is incredibly popular with the young and old in Japan, and I am wondering why we haven't seen any of them in the US? My thought is that it may give Starbucks a run for its money since it is so easy to use, and you don't have to pay the Java chain prices. Still, I doubt that we Americans will ever give up the coffee house culture that we love for socializing, business, or relaxing, but it would still be great to see a few coffee dispensing vending machines around to make our lives a little bit easier. Don't you think?

Coffee Pod Compatible Espresso Machines

I have to admit that there is nothing more convenient than being able to use an espresso machine that is compatible to coffee pods. If you are wondering exactly what a pod is, then know that it is a prepackaged filter surrounding ground coffee that you can brew exactly the same way as espresso, but without the mess involved. Of course, if you want the very best espresso flavors, then I encourage you to freshly grind your beans and brew them right away for a deep and complex taste, but if you happen to be short on time, then you will be thanking your lucky stars that your espresso machine is coffee pod compatible. A great choice is the Espressione Grace Pump Espresso Machine because it comes in a variety of colors, has a rust inhibitor, is adaptable to coffee pods, and is only $349.99.

Regardless of which espresso machine in you buy for home use, just keep in mind that being coffee pod compatible is a great feature to have. Let's hear it for convenience!

Are Coffee Prices Rising?

Sadly, yes, coffee prices are rising due to economic issues where the cost of coffee and sugar is higher than ever before. Still, we coffee lovers plunge forward and continue to pay for high quality Java, regardless of the cost. A few contributing factors to the rise of coffee prices is because fuel and fertilizer costs are going up, which is affecting coffee farmers. There are also numerous regulation fees that coffee farmers have to pay to produce premium beans, like being Shade Grown, Organic, and Fair Trade. You may be happy to know that even though the price on your cup of Joe is a little steeper than it was before, coffee harvesters are still being protected by Fair Trade regulations, which guarantees them a set wage and allows them to focus on premium and consistent coffee harvesting. Let's just say that this is the time that Americans are focusing more on brewing at home, which I totally love because all coffee brewing options are being explored like never before. So what are you waiting for? Brew budget friendly coffee at home -it just makes sense.

Unique Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee

I'm sure that you have heard this term being buzzed around the coffee communities lately and hailed as one of the most popular and expensive beans that money can buy. And why is that, you might ask? Well, for one, the Blue Mountain region of Jamaica is at an extremely high altitude of 7,500 feet and covered by a dense fog that causes the beans to grow slower and be harvested so they are thicker and richer. Any beans that are cultivated in this region are regulated by The Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica so that they will say that they are 100% Jamaican Blue Mountain. The taste of the brew itself has acidity with a full body, and you can immediately smell intense aromas that are overpowering to your palette. It is wonderful to drink, and I definitely recommend trying it for a special and high-class coffee treat!

How To Find the Freshest Coffee Every Time

If you are constantly being faced with coffee related decisions, then you need to know what to look for to make sure that your cup of Joe is always at its best and tasting the freshest. There is nothing worse than taking a sip of your Java that is waiting for you, only to find that it is bitter and flat. Coffee itself is a delicious and complex beverage that offers so many notes of flavor that I would hate for you to miss out at any time! Here are some simple tips of what to look for in any situation to ensure that your brew is always at its best:

  • Buy whole coffee beans.
  • Grind all of your beans freshly at home in a coffee grinder. The Kitchenaid BCG100 Coffee Grinder is only $35.99, and it grinds from fine to coarse and is easy to clean because it is dishwasher safe.
  • Use a French Press to extract all of the essential oils from your bean for the best flavor. I love the Bodum Chambord 3 Cup Coffee Press because it is personal size, and it actually won the Best French Press award from The American Culinary Institute in 2004.
  • If you are out at a coffee shop, buy some of their beans to grind at home and test the flavors.
  • Be sure to ask the roast date of any coffee shop's beans to ensure freshness.

Hey, sometimes it pays to be a coffee snob because that means you will never compromise on flavor! Don't settle for less...

What Are the Types of Coffee Makers?

There are so many questions to be had involving which coffee maker is right for you, so I would love to give you the highlights on the types of coffee makers so that you can know what to look for.

  • Traditional Drip Brewer: This works in the traditional method of pushing hot water through the filtering system containing coffee grounds so that the coffee brew drips into the pot below. This is a convenient method that can be programmed and often offers a variety of features, depending on the brand.
  • Piston Coffee Maker: To begin, you will boil water on your stove in the kettle. You then place your coffee grounds in the filter and pour the hot water into the container. The piston works within three minutes to push the water through the filter for your final brew product, and it works best with coarse grounds.
  • Vacuum Coffee Maker: This has two stacked chambers, and the coarsely ground coffee is placed in the filter in the center. Water is poured into the bottom chamber, and you can heat this on your stove top so that the water is pushed up through the filter into the top chamber for your final product.
  • Percolator Coffee Maker: You begin by placing your grinds in the filter, and the water heats and pushes through the filter within several brewing cycles to make your final percolated coffee product.

So which coffee maker is right for you? Be sure to experiment and see which tastes and flavors work best for you within a variety of complex coffee brewing systems.

Which Saeco is Best For You?

Firstly, let's discuss how important it is to have your own home espresso machine. If you do the math on buying a $3 latte every day for a year, then you have already spent $1000. That is just a modest estimation, so think of putting that lump sum toward your home espresso machine and avoiding all lines at Starbucks, as well as being able to perfect your latte art and create new cappuccino ideas.

Now that we have that settled, Saeco is a completely advanced company that has so many automatic espresso machines to offer. The Saeco Spidem Villa has an adjustable conical burr grinder and even uses the OptiDose technology to customize your exact taste and strength consistency that you would like for your brew. The Saeco Royal is a wonderful semi professional model, and you can use the programming technology to save the data for each person's specific coffee drink that they love to enjoy. The Saeco Talea has a built-in grinder, and it uses the Saeco Milk Island, which will allow you to automatically froth for expert microfoam production. It includes a motorized drip tray and the SBS Saeco Brewing System. Lastly, you should totally check out the Saeco Incanto Sirius, which is my personal favorite, and it has an advanced touch screen LCD display so that you can easily brew anything that comes to your mind. It offers the Rapid Steam System so there is absolutely no down time from your brewing to your frothing, which can be annoying with other espresso machine varieties. It gives you easy programming options and uses the pre-infusion Aroma System as part of the extraction process to give you the best crema. That is a lot to think about...

Use Coffee For Beautiful Skin

This may seem like a too-good-to-be true claim, but I assure you, coffee is a complete leading ingredient in the skin care market. There have been advanced technologies in actually extracting the coffee cherry itself to pull out three times the antioxidant benefits of green tea. I am sure that you have seen green tea used in numerous professional skincare lines, and now coffee can offer you three times those benefits. The use of the antioxidant content in coffee means that your skin will be protected from outside damage from free radicals, and the cells will be kept intact. This will completely lessen the appearance of fine lines by up to 46%, and your skin will have a smoother appearance by up to 64%. The caffeine in coffee also works to tighten and constrict your skin because it is a vasodilator, so this works well if you have any puffiness or redness in your complexion. Drink coffee for a more beautiful you!

Coffee Cocktails: The Best of Both Worlds

If you want to find a way to enjoy your alcohol and your coffee, then I suggest that you combine the two. These are two vices that are deliciously enjoyed in moderation when drank together, and I have a few fun suggestions for you to create your own coffee inspired cocktails.

Firstly, you can easily make a Keoke Coffee by pouring equal parts Kahlua, Brandy, and Creme de Cacao into your coffee mug, and topping it with hot coffee and whipped cream. You can also mix an easy and delicious Bailey's Espresso Martini by shaking in a martini shaker with ice a shot of espresso, a 1/4 shot vodka, and 2 shots of Bailey's. Serve in a chilled martini glass, and you have yourself a classy treat for an after dinner drink. There are so many more coffee cocktail options, so I encourage you to be creative, and also check out my Coffee Recipes for some ideas. Or tell me some of your own because I would love to hear them!

Coffee Helps You Live Longer!

Isn't this wonderful news? I always knew that there was something special about my rich and dark cup of Joe, but now that it has been proven that it is bursting with health benefits, I am feeling even more smug. Remember the days when coffee had a bad rap due to some inconclusive studies that smeared its name in the mud? Those days are now completely gone, and coffee is in the spotlight for lengthening your life. Not only that, but it also reduces asthma attacks by having the benefit of being a bronchodilator, which stops wheezing and coughing. As if that news wasn't good enough, you can also know that coffee prevents disease by being a main source of antioxidants when sipped daily in a moderate amount of up to 4 cups. I really did not need a reason to justify my coffee addiction before, but it is good to know that I am actually doing something for my taste buds and my health when I am sipping my cup of Joe every morning!

What is the History of the Coffee House?

If you love to start your morning by reading the paper in your local coffee house or café, then know that history is repeating itself. Coffee houses have been around for centuries, and people have been using them to read, socialize, and make business decisions, as they still do today. One of the first coffee houses was actually said to pop up in the 1500s in the Middle East, where it became increasingly popular because the only prior place for people to meet was the pub. By the 1800s there was known to be over 600 coffee houses in England, though the King did try to ban the brew at the time. Shocking! From there, coffee houses began to sell a variety of wares, such as tea, tobacco, and chocolates. In those times you could see people using the coffee house to relax, or even make political moves. The coffee house has not changed much in my estimation, and it is humbling to think that this same establishment was actually the location that the fathers of our country could have made their decisions. Go, coffee!

How To Brew Espresso Flawlessly

This is something that is on every budding baristas mind, so I'm here to tell you the best and easiest way to ensure that you are putting out a quality espresso shot every time. Let us begin.

  • First, use distilled water because tap water will affect the taste and caused lime scale in your machine.
  • Second, use a high quality machine and grind your beans fresh at a fine setting before brewing. (Note: many high quality espresso machines have built in grinders, which will save you money.)
  • Third, brew your espresso within 5 to 10 seconds, and if it is too fast or too slow, then you need to check your grind consistency.
  • Lastly, focused on creating a thick and velvety crema of a caramel color atop your shot to show the quality of the brew. This will be responsible for the amazing flavor that you will taste.

These are just some quick and easy espresso brewing tips, and always make sure to drink your espresso right away so that the flavors are at their best. Keep practicing, and you will be on your way to pro barista standards in no time!

Coffee Cheesecake Recipe

I know that you are already drooling at the sound of this, but I am going to share with you a very simple coffee cheesecake recipe that you must try because cooking with coffee is something that offers so much flavor variety to what you're making. Here we go:

  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 3 tbsp. melted butter
  • 3/4 cup crushed chocolate chip cookies
  • 3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 32 oz. softened cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup instant coffee
  • 1 tub Cool Whip
  • Chocolate shavings

Preheat your oven to 325, and used foil to line the inside of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Began mixing in a small bowl the cookie crumbs with 1 tbsp. of sugar. Then the mix in your melted butter thoroughly, and add the graham cracker crumbs to your bowl. Use the back of a spoon to firmly press this mixture to the bottom of your foil lined pan, and this will be your crust. Bake for 10 minutes and cool.

To make your filling, you will use a hand held blender to beat the softened cream cheese, 1 cup sugar, and lemon juice well. Then add your eggs and instant coffee, and continue to mix. Pour the filling into your baked crust, and bake for 60 minutes until the filling looks firm. Refrigerate overnight, and top with a layer of Cool Whip and chocolate shavings for the most delicious dessert you will ever sink your teeth into! You're welcome.

Just when you thought you had seen it all, now you find out that you can use coffee to treat your hair? Brilliant, simply brilliant. I am going to give you a completely easy recipe that you can use to condition and stain your hair in a natural way to enhance brunette color and shine. This works best on already brown to brunette hair for deepening the color, but you can also use it on light and blonder locks to give them depth and vibrance.

Begin by mixing:
  • 2 cups leave in conditioner
  • 2 tbsp. coffee grounds
  • 1 cup of brewed coffee, cooled

Then simply apply it to your hair and wrap in an old towel (because it will be stained) for 45 minutes. Voila! Now you have beautiful, dark, and soft hair at virtually less than the price of a cup of coffee! Beautiful.

Where Can You Get the Best Cup of Coffee in the World?

If you happen been to be a world traveling coffee lover, then you are in luck because I am going to give you a few tips on finding the finest coffees from pole to pole.

  • Seattle: It would only make sense to start in the birthplace of coffee that gave us Starbucks, but also expect to find many premium micro-roasters and independent coffee houses that will not let you down.
  • Amsterdam: Just a tip, if you look for a "coffee house", you may only find marijuana, so check out one of their finely wood paneled cafés that offer delicious espresso to enjoy with friends.
  • Australia: Australia makes me laugh because their coffee culture is already so diverse that they completely rejected Starbucks trying to move in on them. Starbucks failed there, and Australia wins because they cultivate their coffee flavors with Italian and Greek influences for an amazing taste.
  • Italy: Of course, you have to try your coffee experience in Italy to get the truest cappuccinos served by an expert barista, but know that cappuccinos are only acceptable in the breakfast hours so that you do not commit a tragic coffee faux pas.

Those are just a few great worldwide coffee tips, and I would love to hear from you on the best coffee you have ever had in the world!

Coffee Bean Harvesting

If you have ever become curious about how your coffee came to be in your cup, then I am here to tell you a little bit about the coffee harvesting process. First, the coffee berries are handpicked and placed in a water tank where the good berries float to the bottom and all of the bad beans and debris are filtered off of the top. The berries are then run through washing tanks and left to dry for a few weeks. After that, the coffee berries are put into a milling machine that will remove the skin and extract two coffee beans from each berry. The new coffee beans are then shipped in bulk to a roasting plant, where they are roasted at high temperatures of 900°F and immediately cooled. The coffee beans lose up to sixth of their original weight through the roasting process, and they are then vacuum packed as whole beans or pre-ground and prepared for shipping. It all seems so simple but there is so much involved in the coffee harvesting process that brings you the quality beans that you enjoyed every single day. Make sure that you are choosing the best!

Mushroom Extract To Lower Levels of Acidity in Coffee?

Yes, 'tis true! Though this may sound a little odd, if you are a coffee drinker with a sensitive stomach that has to watch these levels of acidity in your coffee, then there has now been the addition of the mushroom extract Ganoderma to lower acidity in your coffee drink. This red mushroom is ground into a powder and added to the coffee during roasting to give it numerous health benefits in addition to providing an alkalinity to soothe your stomach by giving the coffee a low acidity value. Flavor, taste, aroma, and caffeine content are compromised in no way so you can still count on a delicious cup of Joe, but this is a great way to add an ancient Chinese health remedy to your every day coffee drink. Brilliant!

Drink Coffee To Lose Weight!

Studies have shown that coffee is now on the good team and has so many health benefits that it would knock your socks off. Now you can feel absolutely no guilt in sipping your morning cup of Joe, though for weight loss benefits you need to make sure that you are drinking it black because it is then virtually calorie free.
