Making coffee itself is a wonderful treat, but no one can resist the delicious flavors of chocolate covered coffee beans!

Here is an easy recipe that you can make at home:

• 1/2 cup Chocolate chips
• 1/3 cup Roasted coffee beans, preferably flavored

Melt the chocolate over the stove in a double boiler until it is smooth, and then slowly drop in the coffee beans. Stir the mixture well. Remove the coffee beans from the chocolate with a spoon one by one, and separate them on waxed paper. Make sure that they are all separated, and also make sure that they are completely covered in chocolate. Harvard Workers Poisoned by Coffee?

You may have discovered by now that coffee is an incredibly healthy beverage with a number of wellness benefits. However, researchers at Harvard University are no longer sharing these views after being poisoned by their Java.

Researchers were admitted to the hospital in the Boston area this past August after they drank poisonous coffee from a public coffee machine in the Harvard New Research Building. This brew was said to have the chemical sodium azide, which is incredibly harmful. These researchers reported fainting, dizziness, and ringing in their ears, and they also were said to have low blood pressure.

The jury is still out on whether or not this was an accident, but for safe coffee consumption, make sure that you brew your Java yourself within the comfort of your home for a delicious treat!

How Much Caffeine Does Coffee Have?

This is a very interesting question, and it is important for you to know if you are using coffee to get through your day. You may be interested to find out that drip brewed coffee has more caffeine than espresso because the coffee grounds stay in contact with the water for a longer period of time, making them more caffeinated.

An 8 ounce cup of drip brewed coffee will have anywhere from 60 to 120 mg of caffeine. A 2 ounce shot of double espresso will have 45 to 100 mg of caffeine. You can compare these amounts to a 12 ounce can of soda, which has around 35 mg of caffeine. As you can see, drip brewed coffee packs the best punch, which also does include other methods of coffee brewing, like the French Press.

It is best to drink your coffee spread out throughout the day in small amounts so that you will stay energized and not experience any caffeine crashes!

What is the Best Way to Store Coffee Beans?

Believe it or not, coffee beans are quite sensitive, and if you are storing them improperly, then you will be dramatically affecting the flavor and taste of your cup of Joe.

Here are some easy tips on the best storage methods for your fresh coffee beans:

Do not place them in the freezer at all costs because that will dry out the essential oils from the beans, leaving them flavorless!
• Do not store coffee beans in a warm area, like next to an oven or in direct sunlight.
• If you do store your coffee beans on your countertop, then you need to use an opaque container that is airtight to prevent the beans from being exposed to light.
• It is always best to store your coffee beans in a cool and dark place that is free from moisture, like a pantry.

Believe me, you will notice a significant difference in the flavor quality of your cup of Joe when you take the time to store your coffee beans properly!

The Ultimate Convenience of a Blade Coffee Grinder

If you are not yet freshly grinding your coffee beans, then you are truly missing out on all of the fresh tastes available to you in your Java drinking!

A Blade coffee grinder is ideal for home use because it allows you to freshly grind your coffee beans from fine to medium to coarse, depending on your preference. This is also especially helpful if you are a French Press coffee drinker because it will allow you to control the grind consistency of your beans so that you can freshly brew your French Press coffee to your liking.

Most compact Blade grinders will grind enough coffee to be equivalent to a 12 cup coffee maker. This is perfect for at-home use since most coffee makers average 12 cups. It is best to choose a brand that you can trust in a compact Blade coffee grinder, like Bodum, Krups, or Delonghi. These are professional coffee brands, and the blade grinders use stainless steel blades to thoroughly grind all coffee beans. This is absolutely the only way to enjoy fresh coffee by professionally grinding your beans before you brew!

Can You Drink Coffee If You Have a Sensitive Stomach?

This is a very common question, but you can actually still enjoy your brew if you have stomach sensitivities. Many people with sensitive stomachs steer away from coffee because of the high acid content, which can often cause irritation. However, here are a few tips to remedy that so that you can still enjoy your delicious cup of Joe!

  • First of all, try coffee from Africa or Indonesia because those regions often produce coffee with less acidity.
  • Next, drink a darker roast. If a roast is darker, it will have less acidity than a lighter roast.
  • Last of all, consider cold brewing your coffee. This is a process that takes several hours because it does have to brew overnight, but it will remove almost 60% of the acidity within the coffee itself.

The good news is that you don't have to give up coffee if you have a sensitive stomach!

Is Global Warming Affecting Coffee?

Something interesting is happening to coffee crops all over the world, which is that weather patterns are changing drastically because of global warming.

Coffee trees are very delicate, and they need a certain amount of rainfall at certain times. However, it seems that weather patterns are changing drastically, which is causing issues for coffee farmers. In the spring months, coffee crops need a generous amount of rainfall. They also need rain in the summer, and they need a drier season in the fall so that the beans can harden and become ripe for picking. However, global warming seems to be causing the opposite effect, where there is dryness during the time period where the coffee trees need moisture, and vice versa.

This is potentially causing a rise in coffee prices since there is less supply. What you can do is focus on purchasing Fair Trade coffee because it will protect the coffee farmers, which will ensure that there will be farmers in the future to continue to produce quality crops for consumers.

What Do You Know About Your Cup of Joe?

Coffee is an interesting drink in itself, so how much do you know about your cup of Joe?

First of all, coffee is grown on a tree that produces a fruit that looks like cherries. These are often called coffee berries or coffee cherries, and they do have to turn red before they can be picked. When these berries are opened, they will contain two coffee beans. After the coffee beans have been picked, they do need to be fermented to remove the mucilaginous layer covering. If this layer is not removed, it will dramatically affect the taste of the coffee beans for the worse.

Each coffee bean that is harvested will taste different depending on the region that it was grown in. Some factors that affect the taste of the coffee beans are altitude, soil quality, rainfall, and processing. It is always preferable to choose coffee beans that are grown at a higher altitude, like the Jamaican Blue Mountain Estate Coffee Beans, because it will allow the flavors to develop more deeply and slowly so that there is more complexity and robustness in the final product.

Developing Your Coffee Palate is Easy!

If you feel intimidated by coffee cuppings or tastings, you no longer need to because you can learn how to develop your own coffee palate in a few easy steps.

Start out by purchasing two very different coffee roasts.
• Brew two different small cups of coffee on two separate French Presses. It is ideal to use a French Press to brew coffee because it will leave the essential oils of the coffee beans in the final brew product for a better flavor and taste.
• Taste the cups of coffee one at a time, and start out by focusing on the textures. Does one cup of coffee have a heavier feel? Does one have a smoother finish?
• Don't read the labels of the coffee beans because the description of the roaster may sway your opinion.
• Don't worry about the words that you use because there is no correct coffee terminology. It is up to you to decide what flavors that you taste in comparison to the other cup of Joe.

Congratulations, now you are a professional coffee connoisseur!

How To Save Money When Ordering Coffee

If you have become frustrated when picking up your daily cappuccino at Starbucks, only to find that you are spending over five dollars per day, then here are some simple tips to save you cash in the long run.

  • Start out by ordering basic coffee drinks because those will be about half the cost of a latte.
  • If you want something a little bit different, you can order a café au lait, which is coffee with steamed milk. It still is much cheaper than a specialized coffee drink.
  • Order a medium-sized drink and not a large because it will be the cheapest of the two, and it also will contain the same amount of espresso or coffee as a large drink.
  • Use customer reward cards made available to you, where you can buy a certain number of drinks and get a free one.
  • Last of all, consider scrapping the whole notion of paying five dollars a day on an oversized coffee drink with too many calories, and invest that money in a home espresso machine to make your own delicious brew creations!

Where To Find The Best Gourmet Coffee

If you have a local roaster in your area, then you may be lucky enough to be able to purchase freshly roasted gourmet coffee directly from them. Otherwise, you do need to look for a retailer on the Internet (like myself) that offers freshly roasted coffee that is shipped the day that is roasted.

Some cities that have local roasters are Dallas, Atlanta, and Denver. If you live in any of these areas, then you can check out some local roasters like Atlanta Coffee Roasters or Luna Roasters in Denver.

Otherwise, it is important to look for a coffee retailer online that sells freshly roasted gourmet coffee that will ship the day that it is roasted. If not, you risk purchasing coffee that is stale because coffee will only retain its freshness up to 14 days after roasting. This is the smartest way to select premium beans for a delicious cup of Joe by choosing fresh coffee that is gourmet roasted!

Are You Brewing The Best Cup of Joe?

There are a few things to consider when you are brewing quality coffee, so make sure that you are not making any detrimental mistakes that will affect your brew.

• Make sure that you are using cold filtered water because that will give you the freshest coffee taste possible when you brew.
• Do not freeze or refrigerate your coffee beans when you store them, but keep them in an airtight container in a cool place.
• Do not purchased pre-ground coffee, but make sure that you freshly grind your coffee beans before you brew them because that will give you the freshest flavor possible.
• Make sure that you are using a quality coffee maker, or more preferably, a French Press, because that will give you the most control over your brewing.
• If you are using paper filters, then use brown filters because they are more porous, so more essential oils will get through into your brew.

Brew With The Yama Syphon Coffee Brewer

This is a pretty interesting coffee brewing device that will give you a coffee consistency that is similar to the French Press brew method. It uses a siphon to create a vacuum effect within the coffee brew itself. The Yama Syphon Coffee Brewer is also made of heat resistant borosilicate glass, so it will not crack under high temperatures.

It will work to heat the coffee in the bottom chamber, and when it reaches the correct temperature, it will be pulled up through the coffee grounds into the top chamber with a vacuum method. This is similar to the Stovetop Espresso Maker, which uses a vacuum method to brew a rich cup of coffee on the stove. When the extracted coffee brew is pulled into the top chamber, you can remove it from heat, and the coffee product will move back through the coffee grounds to remain in the bottom container. The coffee is brewed through a cloth filter to achieve this delicious brew product.

If you are a fan of the French Press, then this is a coffee brewing method you may be interested in. Definitely worth a try!

What Is In Coffee?

Coffee is a complex and delicious beverage, and you may be interested to know some of the components that make up your cup of Joe.

Water: An ideal cup of Joe should be 98.75% water and made up of 1.25% of plant matter. Recent studies have shown that regular coffee drinking can be counted within your daily fluid intake because it does not dehydrate you as much as it was once thought to.
Caffeine: Coffee also does contain caffeine, and the reason that coffee plants are naturally caffeinated is because it is a built-in insect repellent.
Quinic Acid: This acid quality will work to give a brightness to your coffee. Some coffees have a light acidity, while others have a bold acidity.
Acetylmethylcarbinol: This is a substance that can be found in real butter to give it flavor. It also can be found in the artificial flavoring on microwave popcorn, so it will give a smoother taste to your cup of Joe.
Antioxidants: This is one of the most important parts of your cup of Joe because they will provide you with age and disease fighting qualities that will keep you protected and strong!

When Should You Use a Coffee Airpot?

Airpots are becoming popular coffee products because they provide you the capability to brew directly into this device and transport your fresh coffee to a different location.

Many people are also preferring the use of thermal pitchers for their home coffee service because it allows them to brew directly into a thermal device that has a handle. This pitcher can be placed on your table for easy coffee service that will remain as hot and as fresh as when it was brewed.

For larger commercial and semi-commercial settings, rely upon the use of lever or push action airpots because they will allow you to transport your coffee to a different location of your restaurant or coffee shop. This is also something that is preferable for an office because they can be set up in a break room or lobby area. The main focus to any coffee brewing should be freshness, which is exactly what these thermal airpots and pitchers provide!

Have You Tried a Double Wall French Press?

If you are a fan of the French Press, then you definitely need to put some thought into what type of technology you are using.

The Double Wall French Press is truly one-of-a-kind, and it provides you with the capability of keeping your coffee product sealed as fresh for up to two hours at a time. This is much preferred to allowing your drip brewed coffee to sit on the burner in your coffee machine for several hours because it can burn your coffee so that it tastes flat and bitter. Using a Double Wall French Press will give you the same effect of keeping your coffee product hot for a longer period of time, but it will thermally insulate the coffee so that it stays fresh while it remains hot.

Your Double Wall French Press also will provide you with the capability to brew without the use of paper filters so that the essential oils remain in the final brew product for a truly delicious cup of Joe!

Are Coffee Drinkers Getting Younger?

If you visited a coffee shop lately, then you may have noticed that it was inhabited by a large amount of teenagers. Coffee shops are safe place for teenagers to hang out, but is it necessarily safe for them to drink coffee?

The bottom line is that coffee is safe in moderation. Coffee does not stunt the growth, as it once was rumored to, and it even can be counted within your daily fluid intake if you drink it in moderation. Moderation is 2 to 3 cups a day, so teenagers do need to watch out for the large coffee sizes that are served at many coffee shops. Other than that, they may also need to monitor their caffeine intake if they are drinking other caffeinated drinks, like energy drinks or sodas.

Coffee is full of antioxidants that have the capability to prevent disease, so it is a wonderful drink to be enjoyed by any age group in moderation!

How Do You Pick The Right Espresso Machine?

If you are looking into purchasing an espresso machine for your home or office, that may seem like an intimidating task. However, here are some easy tips for you to make sure that you pick the right espresso machine for you to make your life that much easier:

• Consider what type of features you would like. If you are hoping to make a lot of lattes and cappuccinos, then you do need a machine that has premium steaming features to enable you to froth and steam regularly.
• Determine what type of control panel you would like to have. Many automatic espresso machines do provide you with the capability to preprogram a number of different drinks, while other machines are manual and have less programmable features.
• Who is going to be using the machine? If you are a semi-pro barista, then you may be happier with a manual espresso machine because it will give you more control. If you are new to the espresso world, then it may be best to purchase an automatic espresso machine that will be able to brew completely for you.

The bottom line is that life is good when you have a home espresso machine!

Differences Between Steam and Pump Espresso Machines

If you are scratching your head when it comes to purchasing a home espresso machine, here are some easy differences between the steam and pump choices in espresso machines.

Steam Espresso Machines:
• The water heats through a steam process to extract the espresso.
• These machines are very simple to operate.
• The steam process may become too hot and cause the espresso to taste bitter.
• These machines are much cheaper, but sometimes lesser quality.

Pump Espresso Machines:
• These are more expensive espresso machines.
• These machines work with a pump to push hot water through the espresso grounds to extract the espresso.
• These are larger machines, but many are still compact and heavy duty.
• These machines may be more difficult to operate.

Whatever your choice may be, with a quality home espresso machine, you can't go wrong! And just think of how much money you will be saving by not buying $5 cappuccinos at Starbucks on a daily basis...

Why Use a Thermal Coffee Maker?

One of the latest and greatest technologies in coffee brewing is the use of a thermal coffee maker. This type of coffee maker uses a thermal carafe to brew into, as opposed to a traditional glass carafe. So what’s so great about that?

The reason that a thermal coffee maker is so useful is because it uses double walled stainless steel to preserve the coffee product and keep it hot for hours at a time. Depending on the manufacturer, your thermal coffee maker may have the ability to keep your coffee hot for up to six hours. This type of coffee maker also does not use a warming burner, so it will not burn your coffee and cause it to become bitter.

If you are using a traditional drip brew coffee maker to brew your Java at home, then it is best to go thermal because that provides you with the capability to seal your coffee after it has been freshly brewed so that it remains hot and delicious for hours at a time!

What Are The Top 3 Coffees in The World?

If you are a coffee lover, then you certainly have a lot to think about when it comes to selecting the finest choices within your brew. Here are the top three rarest and most delicious coffees for your consideration:

  • Kopi Luwak: You already may be familiar with this type of coffee that comes from the excrement of tree cats in Indonesia. If that doesn’t sound like something you want to drink, then you may want to think again because this coffee can cost hundreds of dollars per pound, so it is quite valuable.
  • Hawaiian Kona Coffee: This is a delicious type of coffee that is grown in the tropical atmosphere of Hawaii. It has a smooth and rich finish with chocolatey undertones and a medium body. Hawaii is the only state in the United States that grows coffee, and it thrives in the rich volcanic soil.
  • Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee: The Jamaican Blue Mountains are the perfect place for growing coffee because they offer a high altitude, which allows the coffee beans to grow slowly so that the flavors develop more deeply. These are rare beans with a deep and full flavor!

What Are The Pros of Coffee Drinking?

There are so many good things to say about coffee, so where do I even begin? Coffee drinking has more health benefits than ever, but one of the main pros to drinking coffee is all of its antioxidant properties.

The main reason that you need antioxidants within your diet on a daily basis is that they can work to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals come from outside sources, like pollution, smoking, and sun damage, and they will eat away at the cells in your body. This can cause signs of premature aging and disease. If you want to keep your body younger for longer, then you do need to drink a regular amount of coffee on a daily basis to protect your body cells from damage.

Coffee also has the ability to protect from diseases, like Alzheimer's, stroke, and cirrhosis of the liver. As if you needed an excuse, here are a few more reasons to enjoy your cup of Joe!

Is There Such Thing as Root Beer Coffee?

You may have heard of many different flavored coffees on the market, but root beer coffee could be a first! This is a specialty coffee available for a limited time, and it is called Timothy's Spanish Sol.

If you want to try this interesting blend, it is a root beer coffee roast that has undertones of licorice with a mild sweetness. This coffee does have a medium acidity, which means that it won't be too bright on your tongue. This is also coffee that is recommended for hot summer days because it maintains a very nice flavor, even in the heat.

Keep in mind that this is a coffee that is being discontinued, but it is made from the top 1% to 5% of Arabica beans within its coffee growing regions. Make sure that whatever flavor of coffee you choose is made with 100% Arabica beans because that will give you a flavor profile that you can trust.

How Was Coffee Discovered?

There are quite a few rumors about the origin of coffee, but many people attribute it to an Ethiopian goat herder. He was rumored to notice that his goats became very energetic after eating a certain type of berry, which he began to eat himself. He spread the word about this coffee berry, as well as the stimulating benefits that it provided.

Ethiopians did begin to use the coffee berry, and they made it into a paste that they mixed with animal fat. They gave this mixture to their warriors so that they would have energy when they went to battle, which was their version of the modern day energy bar, I suppose. Coffee did get passed on to the Arabian Peninsula, which is where it was first rumored to have become a hot drink. This was also the birth of the first coffee house, which did end up getting banned because of all of the political activity associated with it. Apparently, it was a place that people went to talk, gossip, and plan political decisions. Not much has changed!

Organic Coffee is Healthier!

Organic coffee has a huge list of benefits because it is grown without pesticides and also with the method of crop rotation. However, one more thing to consider is the fact that organic coffee is actually healthier because it contains more antioxidants since it is grown in rich soil.

Organic coffee is harvested with the method of crop rotation, which means that the soil will be more fertile as a result. This will cause the organic coffee to thrive as it grows, so when you are drinking organic, you will be getting more antioxidants in your cup of Joe. Antioxidants are important because they work to fight disease and damage in the cells in your body, so this is the healthiest type of drink that you can sip on a regular basis.

When you are shopping for organic coffee, look for the USDA Organic seal. Many times this coffee will be 95% or 100% organic. This means that 95% or 100% of the ingredients that are used are organic, and the remaining ingredients are not available as organic.

New Green Printer Uses Coffee Grounds as Ink

Keep an eye out for the new RITI printer that prints using coffee grounds. Yes, you heard correctly! This printer also does not use any electricity, so it is wonderfully environmentally friendly.

Many people have an issue with traditional ink cartridges because they are hard to replace, expensive, and they can stain. This eco-friendly printer does use an ink cartridge that you can fill with coffee or tea grounds, and you will insert the paper into the printer yourself. You will then move the ink cartridge from side to side, and it will print your text or image on the paper. It's that simple!

This is not a printer that is intended for large scale printing because it is manual, and it only prints in black and white. Still, you do have the pleasure of having wonderful coffee aromas wafting toward you as you print. I can think of nothing better...

New York City Didn't Like Starbucks Via Instant Coffee

Starbucks introduced its new single package instant coffee to New York, called the Via Ready Brew. This instant coffee costs one dollar per package, but it was not popular in New York City.

New York City is a city that has many options in fresh and flavorful coffee, and many New Yorkers felt that this instant coffee was not worth the price because there were already many choices in cheap and flavorful coffee available to them. Only time will tell if the Starbucks Via instant coffee becomes popular when it is introduced to the United States and Canada, but Starbucks does need to keep in mind that more and more people are brewing their coffee at home in premium espresso and coffee makers because of the economy.

The bottom line is that it is more worthwhile to invest in a home brewing system than to sit in line in the Starbucks drive-through on a daily basis. It just makes sense.
