Coffee Beans: Dry Processing vs. Wet Processing

When it comes to the quality of your coffee beans, that is directly dependent on how they are processed. So which is better, wet processing or dry processing?

Both of the methods work to remove the pulp from the coffee beans so that they can be roasted. Many countries with less rainfall, like Indonesia, Brazil, and Ethiopia, will use dry processing to dry the beans in the sun to allow the pulp to ferment on the beans so that it can be removed. This will result in a more complex favor in the beans with a fuller body.

Wet processing is used to soak the beans and allow the natural enzymes to eat away the pulp on the beans so they can be roasted. This is a process that is newer and preferred to bring out a brightness and acidity in the coffee beans.

Your Checklist For Choosing Premium Coffee Beans

First of all, it is important that you are choosing whole, fresh coffee beans before you brew. It is best to purchase coffee beans from a website where they are shipped fresh to you (like my website!), otherwise, you risk them being stale. That being said, here is what you need to know:

• Do not choose coffee beans that look broken or splintered before you purchase them.
• Purchase coffee beans that are fresh or have a roast date on the bag.
• Smell the coffee beans before purchasing, if you can, to make sure that they are flavorful and fresh.
• Start out by enjoying lightly roasted coffee to determine which coffee characteristics and regions you like the best.
• Choose flavored coffees that are made with fresh and natural flavorings.
• Store all coffee beans in an opaque, airtight container in a dry and cool place!

Are You Brewing The Best Cup of Joe?

Just to make sure, here are a few things to remember:

• Buy whole bean coffee! Not only that, but make sure that it is freshly roasted within 14 days when you grind your coffee beans. Purchase from a retailer that freshly roasts the coffee beans when they ship to you (like me!).
• Grind your coffee beans directly before brewing. Fresh ground coffee goes stale within 30 seconds, really!
• Use 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds per 6 ounces of water as a rule of thumb.
• Use filtered water to brew your coffee every time!
• Clean your coffee maker regularly to remove oil and mineral buildup to maintain the flavor and integrity of your brew.

• After that, heat your water for brewing, but do not bring it to a boil.

How is Instant Coffee Different From Regular Coffee?

If you are a coffee drinker, the odds are that you may feel that it is almost a sin to drink instant coffee. The truth of the matter is that flavors in instant coffee have come a long way, though it is always preferable to have a freshly brewed cup of Joe.

Instant coffee is made by dehydrating coffee grounds, and the preferred method of instant coffee is freeze dried versus spray dried. When instant coffee is spray dried, it is brought to a high temperature to remove moisture from the coffee grounds. This can compromise the flavor of the coffee. If you choose freeze dried instant coffee, it is frozen to remove the moisture, so the final instant coffee product will be more authentic.

Can You Drink Green Coffee Beans?

If you are just delving into your coffee journey, then the thought may have crossed your mind about whether or not you can drink coffee beans when they are green and unroasted.

The short answer is no because green coffee beans have a grassy and astringent flavor. If your coffee beans are not roasted, they will taste sour and unpleasant. If you're hoping to have a lighter cup of Joe, then the best option is to choose a light roast of coffee. This type of coffee will bring out the true characteristics of the beans based on the region that they were grown in. A darker roast will often mask the characteristics of the coffee beans, so that would only be a preferable choice if you like a smoky or dark taste in your Java.

Is Coffee Similar To Wine?

You may have noticed many wine aficionados choosing a specific type of wine based on the characteristics, year, and how it was cultivated. In the same manner, a coffee expert can provide you with equal skill in choosing freshly roasted coffee beans based on the characteristics offered by the region that the beans were grown in.

So how do you get to that point in your coffee drinking? One thing to take into consideration is how the coffee beans were grown. Some factors that may affect the taste of your brew are the country where the beans were grown, the method of picking, the method of drying, and the method of roasting. It is also preferable to choose 100% Arabica coffee beans over the lesser quality Robusta variety.

Coffee industries are working to catch up to wine growing regions in verifying their authenticity. Interestingly enough, one of the most historical coffee growing regions, Jamaican Blue Mountain, did not even receive their US certification until 1986!

How Are Coffee and Wine Similar?

If you are a fan of both coffee and wine, then you may be interested to know that there is a type of coffee wine called Pecan Mocha Wine straight out of Texas!

When it comes to comparing the industries of coffee and wine, they are actually quite similar. Wine is known for being aged to bring out fuller flavor and depth in the drink, and many specialty coffees use the same method. Coffee beans can be aged unroasted for years at a time, developing a deeper flavor and texture. This process makes them much more valuable and expensive.

Coffee and wine are both grown in specific agricultural regions, and any wine enthusiast may be able to tell you the exact year that the grapes of their favorite wine were grown in. In the same way, many coffee lovers are beginning to find out more about the growing conditions of their favorite coffee beans to celebrate their brew!

How To Start Drinking Your Coffee Black

Many coffee drinkers have a difficult time drinking their cup of Joe black, especially if you have become addicted to cream and sugar. Here are some simple tips to ease into pure black coffee drinking:

• Start out by only adding Splenda to your brew to cut out additional calories and cream.
• After that, consider the many different flavored coffees that use authentic flavorings for a naturally sweet taste. Why not try Hazelnut, Irish Cream, or Almond Toffee Coffee?
• From there, try drinking light roasted coffee with a light body for gentle and authentic characteristics in your brew.
• Last of all, invest in more expensive and rare coffee types, like Kona Coffee and Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee. Yes, these coffees are more expensive, but they will give you rare and one-of-a-kind flavors in your cup of Joe. Well worth the money!

How Much Coffee Does a Pound of Coffee Make?

This is a very interesting question to consider, especially if you are in the market for purchasing freshly roasted pounds of coffee. It is important to purchase the exact amount of coffee that you are going to use because if you buy too much, then it will go stale within two weeks.

As a basic rule of thumb, it's ideal to use 3 tablespoons of coffee grounds per 8 ounces of water. If you are brewing a full 40 ounce pot of coffee, then a pound of coffee beans can brew up to 30 pots. This is calculated to yield seven 6 ounce cups for every 40 ounces that are brewed.

Again, it is important to take into consideration that you will not always brew a full pot when you brew coffee because most of it will go to waste. For the freshest cup of Joe possible, brew only what you are going to drink so that the coffee does not sit on the warmer and become burnt or bitter.

What To Expect From Puerto Rican Coffee

Puerto Rico is a country full of delicious flavors and cuisine, but one aspect to take note of is their coffee production. Coffee has been cultivated in Puerto Rico for more than 300 years, and it was brought there from Costa Rica in the 1700s.

Puerto Rico is an ideal coffee growing country because of the high altitude. This altitude provides a cloud cover for the coffee crops, which allows them to grow slowly so that their flavors develop more deeply. Puerto Rican coffee is a much more robust coffee variety, and it is full-bodied and rich in its taste. One reason that many consumers prefer Puerto Rican coffee is because it is a much less expensive choice because it is a domestic product in the United States.

Make Turkish Coffee in a Few Easy Steps

Turkish coffee is an exotic coffee brew, but it is much easier to make than you would anticipate!

Start out by freshly grinding coffee beans until they are almost as fine as a powder.
• Add these coffee grounds in a ratio of 1 teaspoon of coffee grounds to 1 cold cup of water to yield 1 cup of brewed coffee into your Turkish coffee pot. Add an extra half cup of water to compensate for water that may be boiled out during the brew process.
• Before brewing, add 1 teaspoon of sugar for every 2 teaspoons of fresh coffee grounds.
• Place your Turkish coffee pot over low heat, and allow the mixture to boil. After it has boiled, pour some of the mixture into a small Turkish coffee cup.
• Bring the remaining mixture to a boil so that the coffee begins to froth, and then add the froth to the Turkish coffee in the cup.

Simply delicious!

What Are The Flavor Differences of Light, Medium, and Dark Roasted Coffee?

If you are shopping for delicious and fresh coffee beans, the choices of light, medium, and dark roasted coffee beans are available to you. So which one should you choose?

A light roast is roasted only until the first crack of the coffee beans, and these types of coffee beans will contain more sweetness and natural sugars. When coffee beans are roasted, their sugars will begin to caramelize, which causes them to lose some of their natural sweetness.

Medium roasted coffee beans are often roasted after the second crack, which is when more essential oils will be released from the coffee beans. Light and medium roasted coffee beans still have many natural flavors and characteristics from their native coffee growing regions.

Last of all, dark roasted coffee has a smoky and more burnt flavor. This will often mask the natural flavors of the beans, but it still provides a fullness and robustness to the brew.

Dark vs. Light Roasted Coffee: Who Wins?

It's interesting to consider that commercial coffee is often mass-produced as a darker roast because it is easier for coffee producing companies. When coffee is dark roasted, it loses both good and bad flavors, so it is difficult to tell if it is a quality bean or not.

That doesn't mean that all dark roasted coffee is of a poor quality, but many commercial coffee companies will dark roast their beans if they are lower quality to mask bad flavors. On the flipside, light roasted coffee will be roasted only until the first or second crack of the beans, and the drinker will be able to taste more characteristics from the region that the coffee was grown in.

Whether you are a fan of a light or dark roasted coffee, I encourage you to try both choices and make up your mind as to which you prefer!

Tips For Success as a Coffee Business Entrepreneur

Owning your own coffee shop or café may seem like a dream come true, but before you take the leap, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First of all, owning your own small business like a coffee shop affords you the opportunity to have financial independence, the ability to make your own decisions, and satisfaction in providing a quality product. It is also important to be realistic and understand that you may have to work long hours more than five days per week and also study methods of coffee and espresso preparation to excel in your trade.

It really makes a difference to know your coffee and espresso products because that is how you will best serve your public. One specific thing to keep in mind is that the water that you use is so important! Many owners of coffee shops don't consider the water that they are using to brew, but if it contains minerals or chlorine, that will directly affect the taste of the Java being sold for the worse.

What Are The Benefits of a Superautomatic vs. a Traditional Espresso Machine?

If you are trying to decide between a traditional and superautomatic espresso machine for home, office, or commercial use, they each have their own benefits.

When it comes to a superautomatic espresso machine, so many people choose this because of the utter convenience. It will create an entire drink for you with the touch of a button, and it also works fast and consistently. You also have the opportunity to program the drinks that you like for the machine to remember. This is an ideal machine for a larger office break room setting because it will dispense drinks easily and in a timely manner.

A traditional espresso machine is perfect for any espresso connoisseur who wants more control in the production of their espresso. You will have to grind your beans, tamp the espresso, and brew the espresso product. However, you have the opportunity to alter your grind consistency, brew time, tamping, and other factors to create an espresso that is just right for you!

Coffee Prices Compared Worldwide

If you are a jet setter or world traveler, then you have probably experienced a cup of coffee in a different country. Many people are complaining about skyrocketing coffee prices at coffee chains in the US, and a regular cup of Joe in the United States will cost around $4.

However, it really puts it in perspective to travel to Russia for Java because it could cost you $10 for one cup of Joe! Really! Another fairly expensive city to purchase coffee in would be Paris, where it could cost you up to $7 per cup. For more reasonable prices, you may want to try Germany, where coffee can average at $5 per cup.

For the cheapest coffee in the world, Argentina can offer it to you for around $2, as well as South Africa. The most inexpensive coffee can be found in Vietnam for less than one dollar, but Vietnam is also known for producing lower quality Robusta coffee beans. You take your pick...

How is Coffee Flavored?

Flavored coffee became popular in the 90s when gourmet coffee was on the rise, and it has come a long way!

Coffee is flavored through a combination of natural and synthetic compounds that are normally sprayed onto freshly roasted coffee beans immediately after the roasting process. There are a number of flavor combinations that can be used, and if natural oils are used to flavor the coffee beans, they can be extracted from cocoa beans, vanilla beans, or even nuts and berries.

The bottom line is that if you are looking for delicious flavored coffee, make sure that it is freshly roasted (like the selection on my website!) and enjoyed right away for the best taste in your cuppa Joe!

Fine Choices in Indian Coffee Beans

When it comes to coffee, it is always wonderful to sample a number of flavors and choices all over the world. We recommend that you start with India!

Indian Mysore 'Gold Nugget' Coffee Beans are a very rare coffee grown in the southwest region of India, and they are cultivated in an area formerly mined for gold. These coffee beans are 100% Arabica, and they are wet processed for a deeper flavor and taste. You will experience spicy flavors, a light body, and a sweet and smooth finish!

India Monsooned Voyage Coffee Beans are another wonderful choice that came about completely on accident. This coffee was shipped overseas in the 1600s in very wet conditions, which caused it to slightly ferment. The Europeans would still brew this coffee that was already fermented because they didn't know the difference. This created a different taste in the brew, and it is now known for its light body, earthy undertones, and hints of cherrywood with low acidity.

Kona Coffee History

If you are familiar with Kona coffee, then you may already know that it is a high end and in demand gourmet coffee roast. Kona coffee is actually grown in Kona, Hawaii, which is the perfect environment for growing a premium coffee crop!

One of the main reasons that Kona coffee is so in demand compared to other harvests all over the world is because it is grown in such a small location. The growing district for Kona coffee measures 2 miles wide by 20 miles long, which means that a smaller harvest is produced on a yearly basis. This makes Kona coffee much more expensive because it is in demand, especially compared to the many other varieties of coffee produced all over the world.

Kona coffee is delicious because it is grown in the perfect temperate Hawaiian climate. It has protective cloud covering from being grown on a mountainside, since too much sun can weaken the growth of the coffee trees. It also has enough sun to allow the beans to mature to a full and delicious flavor!

How Safe is Your Coffee?

Over the past several years, coffee prices on the market have dropped to an all-time low, which may seem like it would be a good thing. One of the main reasons for this is that Vietnam has become a large coffee producing country, but they are producing lower quality Robusta beans as opposed to premium Arabica beans.

This is lowering the quality of coffee worldwide, and there is also the issue of purity in your cup of Joe. A few years ago, the International Coffee Organization raised standards in coffee exporting companies for less waste and debris to be in the coffee beans. As it turns out, the FDA allows up to 30% excess debris, including moldy coffee beans, gravel, or twigs, within one pure cup of Joe!

As unappetizing as that may be, that is the reality of the situation, so we encourage you to purchase Organic and Fair Trade coffee to have a higher standard in your Java.

Coffee Prevents Advanced Prostate Cancer

In a 20 year study done on 50,000 men, those that were regular coffee drinkers showed to be 60% less likely to be diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that is difficult to treat. The main reason for this is many of the healthy components within coffee besides caffeine.

Coffee can directly affect the metabolism of glucose in the body, insulin levels, and sex hormone levels, which all contribute to the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Researchers have not yet pinpointed the exact component in coffee that provides these health benefits to men, but it in no way harms the health or increases the risk for prostate cancer.

This does not mean that men should begin heavily drinking coffee on a daily basis, but it is advised for both men and women to drink a moderate amount of coffee, 2 or 3 cups, daily for maximum health benefits.

Coffee Myth: Can Coffee Sober You Up?

There was a group of mice studied at Dartmouth College that were given a combination of alcohol and caffeine and required to do a maze. The comparison group of mice were only administered saline for the test.

The drunk mice who had the caffeine showed more movement with less anxiety, but their learning skills were greatly affected. This generally meant that the alcohol in the mice negated the ability of the caffeine to cause anxiety, but it did not stop the negative effects of alcohol on their learning process.

The bottom line is that coffee will wake you up if you are drunk, but it will not decrease your drunkenness. It can actually be a dangerous combination because it will cause you to feel less effects of the alcohol so that you potentially feel more competent and less drunk, when you really are not.

Stick to your morning coffee to drink to your health!

Interesting Choices in Coffee Jewelry

Coffee jewelry is a newer trend on the market, and if you haven’t shopped for a piece yet, you may be surprised to find out how many choices are available. Coffee beans are being used in necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and earrings.

For the man in your life, you can also get silver cast coffee beans in the form of cufflinks. How sophisticated! There are several choices in silver cast coffee beans used in charm bracelets and necklace pendants, but depending on your style, you may like the use of preserved coffee beans that mimic the appeal of wooden jewelry. Coffee beans are being used as beads in jewelry, and they look just as bohemian as funky wooden beads on a necklace.

What Do You Know About Gourmet Coffee?

Gourmet coffee offers a delicious coffee roast to drink, but there are some interesting facts to know about the roasting process.

When all coffee is roasted, it will shrink or lose weight in the roasting process. This means that if you start out with 1 pound of green unroasted coffee beans, it will not yield 1 pound of roasted coffee after it has been roasted. A lighter roast of coffee will shrink less by around 11%, and a very dark roast of coffee can shrink up to 25%. This just goes to show that a darker coffee roast loses much more weight in the roasting process because it is roasted for a longer period of time.

This longer roasting time will also cause the beans to become darker in color, which is why a longer roasted coffee bean is called a darker roast. Keep in mind that it is important to choose premium gourmet coffee blends because many commercial coffee companies under roast their beans to save money.

How To Brew The Best Kona Coffee At Home

Kona coffee is a premium and in demand coffee roast because of its coveted growing conditions. Kona coffee is grown in Hawaii, which is the only location in the United States to harvest coffee. Hawaii is full of tropical climates, humidity, and fertile volcanic soil, which makes it the perfect environment to grow superior coffee beans.

Kona coffee is somewhat more expensive, but it is definitely worth the investment because of the rich and authentic flavors that it will have to offer! If you are brewing your Kona coffee on your home coffee maker, we recommend that you use fresh and cold water, and then remove the coffee pot from the coffee maker immediately after brewing. Pour your fresh coffee into a thermal carafe or sealed thermos to keep the coffee hot and fresh. This is the best way to serve your premium Kona brew because it will prevent it from sitting on the burner of your coffee machine and becoming bitter or burnt tasting.

Is a Coffee Enema Right For You?

This may seem like the last thing you want to talk about, but it's interesting to note that a coffee enema can be used for a number of health purposes.

Overall, the function of a coffee enema is to detoxify the liver. It works to open the bile ducts in the liver to push bile through the system, which allows the rest of the toxins in the body to move directly into the liver for detoxification. This is a treatment that can be used for sleepiness, fatigue, headaches, or even hangovers. This simple process will push toxins quickly through the body to treat a number of health issues. Interestingly enough, coffee enemas also have been used to treat pain in cancer patients whose medications are not working.

Keep in mind that this is a treatment that you may not want to try at home, and if you are interested, it should be administered by a professional.

Low Acid French Press Brewing?

Is this too good to be true? If you are a coffee lover with a sensitive stomach, then you may have had to consider kissing your cup of Joe goodbye. Regular coffee does have acid in it, which can often cause stomach irritation for those who have gastrointestinal disorders or acid reflux.

There is a French Press available that will keep the coffee grounds within the top of the press after brewing to prevent them from over extracting and causing the coffee to become too acidic. A regular French Press will brew with the coffee grounds in the bottom of the press, but a low acid French Press brews with the coffee grounds in a top chamber. This will still offer you a fresh and delicious brew product that is synonymous with the use of a French Press, but it will contain much less acidity for coffee drinkers with sensitive stomachs.

Something to think about...

How Do the Antioxidants in Coffee Measure Up?

You may have heard by now that coffee is full of antioxidants, which provide the benefit of neutralizing free radical damage in the body. Simply put, this has the potential to stop disease and illness, and also prevent wrinkles and premature aging.

To break it down for you, the average American drinks 1.64 cups of coffee per day. This simple coffee consumption offers 1299 mg of antioxidants daily, which is compared to the same amount offered by tea at only 294 mg. It is recommended to eat a diet rich in antioxidants, which includes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Still, bananas only provide 76 mg of antioxidants, dried beans at 72 mg, and corn at 48 mg. That is a significant difference when you compare it to the generous health payoff offered by your daily cup of Joe!

The numbers don't lie...

Does Coffee Contain Antioxidants?

To begin with, it is important to understand that antioxidants are highly beneficial to your health. Why is that, you may ask? Antioxidants neutralize outside free radical damage, which can often come from smoking, pollution, or sun exposure. These same antioxidants will prevent free radicals from damaging the cells in the body, which will stop premature aging and disease.

Many coffee drinkers wonder if freshly brewed coffee contains enough antioxidants to make a difference, and the answer is that it does! It seems that green coffee beans have a higher antioxidant content than roasted coffee beans, but brewed coffee still contains a high level of antioxidants. It is recommended to drink a moderate amount of coffee to procure the most benefits from these antioxidants, which boils down to 2 or 3 cups per day. One more reason to enjoy a delicious and healthy cup of Joe!

What Can You Do If Your Coffee Maker Breaks?

There is nothing more devastating than waking up to find that your coffee maker is not brewing your daily cup of Joe because it has broken.

If you are in a near panic in trying to get to work on time but still need your Java to start your day, then all you have to do is place your coffee grounds within a clean pair of knee-high pantyhose. Put this into a small pot on the stove to brew in boiling water for three minutes. Allow this mixture to steep for three minutes, and then carefully pull out the knee-high pantyhose without allowing any coffee grounds to spill into the coffee product. It's that simple!

If your coffee maker potentially breaking down could ruin your life, then it's also a great idea to have a backup brew method available of a French Press, which doesn't use electricity and won't break unless you drop it on the ground! Even in that case, there are shatterproof French Presses available...

Homemade Coffee Mugs as a Christmas Gift Idea!

If you are scratching your head about what to get the coffee lover in your life, then why not get creative and make a homemade coffee mug?

No, you don't have to fire this coffee mug in a kiln or anything like that, but start out by purchasing blank white coffee mugs at Wal-Mart or another location. After that, buy a number of decorative tools from a craft store, like porcelain paint, stencils, and sponge paint. You can decorate each coffee mug according to the personality of the recipient, and you can use emblems like sports, fashion, or even the name of your loved one.

No homemade coffee mug gift is complete without something to fill it up, so consider buying a pound of gourmet or Christmas flavored coffee per person to put into each mug.

The Advantages of a Pod Coffee Maker

Almost every American has a traditional drip brew coffee maker in their kitchen, but more and more people are turning to the use of pod coffee makers because of the effortless convenience.

Keep in mind that this is a perfect brewing device for anyone looking for instant coffee brewing. A pod is a prepackaged amount of coffee grounds within its own filter that you can place directly into the pod coffee brewer for instantaneous brewing. This is ideal to use if you are walking out of your house on the way to work, or if you want to brew one single cup of Joe during your coffee break at your office.

Many people prefer the use of a pod coffee maker because it cuts down on wasted coffee. There is nothing more frustrating than pouring yourself a cup of Joe at the office that may have been sitting out for hours at a time. When you brew your own single cup with a pod coffee brewer, you can trust that it is completely fresh because it brews a single portion right before your eyes.

Are You Brewing The Best Coffee At Home?

There are so many different brew methods that you can use to prepare your Java at home, and there are certain things to take into consideration.

Whether you are using a Stovetop Espresso Maker, a traditional drip brew coffee maker, a French Press, or even a percolator, it is still important to use fresh and clean filtered water. This means that if you are brewing with a French Press, it is not advised to use water that may have been sitting out in a kettle overnight. Use fresh filtered water, and make sure that it cools below the boiling point before you mix it with the coffee grounds, otherwise, it could burn them and cause the coffee to taste bitter.

Last of all, make sure that everything that you are using is fresh! It is important to order freshly roasted coffee beans from a company that will ship them the day they are roasted (like my website!), and then grind them freshly before you brew. It truly makes a difference!

Coffee Does Not Cause Heart Failure!

In the past, there was a study done on coffee drinkers that showed that coffee consumption was potentially linked to heart failure. However, a recent study done on 37,000 men in Sweden showed no connection between coffee drinking and heart failure.

Within the study, only 784 men developed heart failure over a nine-year period, and it had nothing to do with their coffee intake. This study was not done on women, so the results could differ, but it does not seem likely. It has been proven that there is no association between coffee and heart failure, and coffee may have a neutral or even protective effect on the health of the heart.

The initial studies that were done that showed a negative report on coffee consumption were only done retrospectively, which means that heart attack sufferers were questioned about their coffee consumption. Because of this reason, they were inaccurate, and coffee has been proven not to cause heart failure!

One More Big Coffee Health Benefit!

As you may already know, coffee has a large number of health benefits when it is consumed on a regular basis. In a recent study done in Sweden over 17 years, women who were regular coffee drinkers were studied to determine their risk of developing endometrial cancer.

More than 60,000 women were surveyed, and since they were regular coffee drinkers, only 1% were diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Within the study, they drank two or more cups of coffee per day, and for each extra cup of coffee that they consumed on a daily basis, there was a 10% less risk of developing endometrial cancer.

These benefits were most seen in overweight and obese women who had a decreased risk of developing this cancer per additional cup of coffee consumed by 12% and 20%, respectively. One more victory for coffee!

Tips You Need To Know To Brew The Best Espresso

If you want to brew the best shot of espresso every time on your home espresso machine, here are the secrets you need to know:

• The perfect shot of espresso should brew in around 25 seconds, and if it doesn't, then check your grind consistency.
• It is best to use filtered or soft water to prevent scale and buildup in your machine. It is not recommended to use distilled water because it has distortions of the mineral composition.
• Always use freshly roasted espresso beans, and they will go stale within 10 to 14 days.
• For espresso, it is ideal to use a conical burr grinder for an even and thorough consistency.
• Brew your fresh espresso grounds right away because they will begin to go stale and oxidize within 30 seconds.

Easy Help To Descale Your Espresso Machine

If you have a home espresso machine, it is important to maintain it on a daily basis to prevent lime and mineral buildup. This is especially imperative if you live in an area with hard water, and it is recommended to descale your machine at least every 2 to 3 months.

You can purchase a commercial descaling solution, and you can also make your own out of lemon juice and water. It is not recommended to use vinegar to descale your machine.

To descale your machine, make sure that it is turned off and cooled completely. Pour the solution into the water reservoir of your machine, and allow it to come through the steam nozzle for 30 seconds. Turn the machine off, and allow the solution to soak within the machine for 10 minutes. After that, turn the machine back on and pump the solution through the machine for about 60 seconds.

You can repeat this process five times, and then run fresh water through the machine three times. Finish the process by making a shot of espresso and throwing it away because it could have traces of the solution in it!
