Has American Coffee Gone South?
A recent consumer report rated 37 different American coffee blends available on the market, only to find that none of them were able to score as high as "Excellent" or "Very Good". What gives?Interestingly enough, one of the highest scoring American coffee blends was the Starbucks House Blend at a mediocre rating of "Good". An American coffee blend constitutes a combination of coffee beans from at least two different growing regions all over the world. The problem is that many American roasters have started using cheaper Robusta beans within their blends to save costs, which often impacts the taste of the coffee blend for the worse.
If you hope to preserve the integrity of your cup of Joe, then make sure to purchase whole beans, grind them fresh, and look for roasts that are made with 100% Arabica coffee beans to promote flavor.
