What Home Espresso Machine is Right For a Barista?

If you are already a trained barista, then you definitely need a different caliber of machine for home use. Here are some recommendations for professional home brewing:

La Pavoni Stradivari Espresso Machine: This is an ideal home brewing machine because it is manual, so it allows for more control in the extraction and brew process. It also has two different systems for steaming so that you can steam and foam milk at the same time!
Gensaco Queen Espresso Machine: This is another authentic manual espresso machine made in Italy. It uses rapid steam deployment, and it also can be adapted to use ESE espresso pods. It can brew 1 or 2 cups of espresso at the same time.

The bottom line is that as a barista, you need a professional machine to live up to your expectations!

What It Takes To Become a Barista

If you are interested in becoming a professional barista, or espresso expert, then there are a few credentials to keep in mind that you can add to your set of skills.

• Creation of non-milk espresso drinks
• Creation of milk-based espresso drinks
• Quality of milk frothing
• The ability to adjust the grind of your espresso beans
• Perfect tamping skills
• Roasting
• Blending
• Skills in latte art
• Unique drink creation

So where are you going to begin? It is quite easy to begin by focusing on your milk frothing skills because that will be the base of many of your drinks. It is important to start to practice on your home espresso machine by heating your milk up to 160°. When you are frothing, it is best to use whole milk because it will create a richer and fuller microfoam, which needs to be thick in consistency and free from bubbles.

Becoming a barista is a wonderful skill to have, and practice makes perfect!

Easy Tips For Latte Art

Latte art is the mark of a true espresso pro, so here are some easy tips to use to perfect your creation.

• Make sure that you are using whole milk, which will create a higher quality foam for the art design.
• Steam your milk in a cold pitcher until it is 160°F, and remember to never remove the wand from the foam during the steaming process because that will create bubbles.
• To create a leaf pattern in your latte art, pour your steamed milk at an angle into your cup until it is two thirds full.
• Finish by slowly moving your wrist back and forth as you pour to create the leaf pattern in the foam.
• Finish by pouring the rest of your milk through the leaf pattern without disturbing it.

This is a wonderful skill to learn as an espresso lover and barista, and you can use it to impress all of your friends!

The Right Way To Order Espresso

Have you ever stepped into espresso bar, only to feel a little out of place and nervous? With these simple tips, you will be able to step up to any espresso counter in the world, and order your espresso like a pro.

First, what you must keep in mind is that you should have your drink order prepared before you get to the counter. This is precisely the reason why they are so many long lines snaking around Starbucks because people just can't make up their minds. There are many choices that you need to think about in your drink, so decide in advance what type of milk you would like, how many shots of espresso you would like, what size of drink you would like, and whether you would like whipped cream or not.

Next, make sure that you do tip your barista because it is all part of the atmosphere of rewarding them for the service that they are giving you. This will be greatly appreciated, and it will contribute to the class of the espresso bar overall so that you can keep enjoying such fine drinks in a favorable environment.

Lastly, learn how to pronounce the word! This will give you away in a minute, so make sure that you are pronouncing it "espresso", and not "eXpresso". Big, big difference!

With these tips in mind, I can promise you that the next time that you step into your local espresso bar, you will be able to order your drink with confidence.

Advanced Latte Art: The Latte Art Printer

If you have spent the past several weeks perfecting your best freehand barista style latte art, then it may be time to move over because there is a new machine making way which will actually print a latte art design across the top of your latte. How does this work? Well, it was designed to use the precision of a robotic arm to craft and print a logo or design across the top of your lattes with caramel food coloring that is totally edible and safe. The designs are incredibly intricate, so you can actually have your own picture, brand name, or company logo look as clear as day. This is going to totally up the ante for big coffeehouse chains that will enable them to create an even more superior brand identity by marketing that right on top of the foam of the lattes that they produce. Or maybe you want to get one for your own home or personal use? You can have your own customized picture on top of every cup of Joe that you drink. Smashing. This fun creation is manufactured by OnLatte, Inc.

How To Brew Espresso Flawlessly

This is something that is on every budding baristas mind, so I'm here to tell you the best and easiest way to ensure that you are putting out a quality espresso shot every time. Let us begin.

  • First, use distilled water because tap water will affect the taste and caused lime scale in your machine.
  • Second, use a high quality machine and grind your beans fresh at a fine setting before brewing. (Note: many high quality espresso machines have built in grinders, which will save you money.)
  • Third, brew your espresso within 5 to 10 seconds, and if it is too fast or too slow, then you need to check your grind consistency.
  • Lastly, focused on creating a thick and velvety crema of a caramel color atop your shot to show the quality of the brew. This will be responsible for the amazing flavor that you will taste.

These are just some quick and easy espresso brewing tips, and always make sure to drink your espresso right away so that the flavors are at their best. Keep practicing, and you will be on your way to pro barista standards in no time!

Bring Out the Inner Barista in You

Are you sick of constantly drinking the same drip brewed coffee? Are you ready to embark on a wild coffee journey that will allow you to learn expert knowledge and put it into practice? If the answer to either of these is yes then it is time for you to begin to acquire your own barista and coffee sommelier skills. The art of coffee itself is something that can be compared to a fine wine, so your first order of business is to begin researching specific flavor profiles and custom coffee blends so that you can distinguish every single taste with your highly trained taste buds. From there, take the time to practice over and over your coffee brewing skills so that you can then begin to make your own signature beverages that will cause you to be renowned within your circle of family and friends. If you want to take it to the next level, then make your goal to attend the World Barista Championships where you have the opportunity to be judged on the A to Z of every single one of your coffee and espresso skills. Good luck and Godspeed!
