Recent Coffee Findings: Coffee Reduces the Risk of Heart Rhythm Irregularities

A recent study conducted showed even more benefits from regular coffee drinking in that participants in the study that consumed four or more cups of coffee on a daily basis showed an 18% less risk of being hospitalized for heart irregularities.

Those that drank less coffee on a daily basis at 1 to 3 cups showed a 7% reduction, while those that abstained from coffee completely showed no benefits in a reduced risk for heart rhythm irregularities.

Many people may be surprised at the findings of this study since coffee drinkers often report feeling heart palpitations, however, regular coffee drinking should not be avoided if you have heart rhythm irregularities. This study did not reveal the relationship between coffee drinking and heart rhythm irregularities, but it did underscore the fact that if you are at risk for heart rhythm irregularities, there is no reason to abstain from coffee because it can actually provide benefits when consumed daily.

Why, Oh Why, Did Coffee Get a Bad Rap?

If you have been wondering why the research on coffee has taken a 180° turn lately, then I can tell you why. Coffee was actually given a bad reputation from studies in the past saying that it was bad for your health, but now it is being hailed for all of the health benefits and protections that it has to offer. Hmm, has someone had a change of heart? The truth of the matter is that the research that was done previously was actually done on coffee drinkers who were also smokers, and that wasn't taken into account. The point is that many of the health issues that were found in those coffee drinkers was simply because of smoking. Now that coffee is standing on its own, study after study is coming out to show that it is a health champion that we should feel lucky to drink every day. I know I do.
