The Most Expensive Coffees

If you have a little money to spare, you may want to put it into your cup of Joe! Here are some of the most expensive coffees in the world:

St. Helena Coffee: This is a coffee with a history behind it because it is cultivated on the same island that Napoleon was sent to in exile in 1815. You can purchase this coffee for $79 per pound.
Hacienda la Esmeralda Geisha: This is a coffee from Panama that has fruity and floral flavors. It is currently so popular that it costs up to $100 per pound!
Kopi Luwak: This is perhaps the most expensive coffee in the world, and it is roasted after being extracted from the excrement of tree cats in Indonesia. Mmm... Regardless, it can cost anywhere from $100-$600 per pound!

Are Kopi Luwak Coffee Beans Worthwhile?

You may have heard of the rumored Kopi Luwak coffee beans in the coffee community, which come from the excrement of tree cats in Indonesia.

Basically, these tree cats prowl coffee plantations and eat only the ripest coffee beans. This is incredibly frustrating to the coffee farmer because the ripest coffee beans are obviously the most valuable, so the coffee farmers began removing the beans from the excrement of the tree cats since they were not digested. Apparently, after the beans have passed unharmed through the digestive tract of the tree cats, they have a different flavor and taste because of the enzymes in the digestive process.

If you are interested in Kopi Luwak coffee beans, then you can expect to pay anywhere from $100-$600 per pound to enjoy this one-of-a-kind nutty brew!
