What Is Mobile Coffee Service?

If you are entirely frustrated in waiting in a long line at the drive-thru at Starbucks, now you have the convenience that you are looking for in mobile coffee service!

One of the more popular forms of mobile coffee service can be found on a bike cart. The barista works as a driver and transports the coffee around so people on the go can stop the cart and get their Java fix. This is a perfect idea for parks, busy streets, or even outdoor malls in the city.

The next trend seen in mobile coffee service is in the coffee backpack. This is ideal for any large crowds of people, like a populated beach, individuals standing in line for a concert, or even tourists sightseeing.

The bottom line is that if you are looking for coffee at any given point, it is easier to access than ever! These mobile coffee ideas also provide the perfect business plan for spirited entrepreneurs in this economy.

Has American Coffee Gone South?

A recent consumer report rated 37 different American coffee blends available on the market, only to find that none of them were able to score as high as "Excellent" or "Very Good". What gives?

Interestingly enough, one of the highest scoring American coffee blends was the Starbucks House Blend at a mediocre rating of "Good". An American coffee blend constitutes a combination of coffee beans from at least two different growing regions all over the world. The problem is that many American roasters have started using cheaper Robusta beans within their blends to save costs, which often impacts the taste of the coffee blend for the worse.

If you hope to preserve the integrity of your cup of Joe, then make sure to purchase whole beans, grind them fresh, and look for roasts that are made with 100% Arabica coffee beans to promote flavor.

Coffee Drinking Trends in the US

It's no secret that America is wild about coffee, and we have the statistics to prove it!

Coffee drinking in the US has remained consistent over the past year with 54% of the population regularly drinking Java. Interestingly enough, because of the recession, there is a 5% increase in those that brew coffee at home because it saves time and money in the long run. This also means that purchasing coffee out of the home has gone down by 6% over the past year.

When it comes to demographics, 29% of individuals age 18 to 24 regularly drink coffee, compared with the more substantial 61% from ages 40 to 59.

If you are interested in a delicious and affordable cup of Joe, consider investing in premium home brewing equipment in the form of dependable home coffee and espresso machines!

The Popularity of Coffee Shops

You may have noticed that almost every city corner has one or two choices in a coffee shop, and one of them will most likely be Starbucks. Coffee chains have grown by leaps and bounds in the past several decades, starting with their popularity in Seattle.

Coffee shops are mainly popular because they provide a welcoming atmosphere for study, work, or just hanging out. On top of that, this is a place that encourages people of all ages to come, especially if they are underage or don't drink alcohol. Friends can meet and socialize at a coffee house without the overwhelming atmosphere of a bar, and many coffee chains are now incorporating live acoustic music to provide more ambiance to the setting.

Nowadays, coffee shops cater to the businessman or woman by often offering free WiFi connections to encourage business meetings, working, or studying to increase their sales.

Are You a Coffee Lover Who Has an iPhone?

If you meet both of these requirements, then you are going to be pretty excited about the two new Starbucks iPhone applications to make your life that much easier.

These apps are called myStarbucks and Starbucks Card Mobile. If you live in the Bay Area or Seattle, you can also pay for any of your coffee purchases with the Starbucks Card Mobile app. How handy! Otherwise, you can use these applications to locate Starbucks stores in your area, and you can even invite friends in your iPhone Address Book to meet you for an espresso.

You can also customize your own drink within these apps, and then save it to your iPhone. You can use this to show to your barista when you are ordering at Starbucks, and it will help to make sure you get exactly what you want. Technology is a wonderful thing, and when it makes coffee drinking even easier, I am all for it!

New York City Didn't Like Starbucks Via Instant Coffee

Starbucks introduced its new single package instant coffee to New York, called the Via Ready Brew. This instant coffee costs one dollar per package, but it was not popular in New York City.

New York City is a city that has many options in fresh and flavorful coffee, and many New Yorkers felt that this instant coffee was not worth the price because there were already many choices in cheap and flavorful coffee available to them. Only time will tell if the Starbucks Via instant coffee becomes popular when it is introduced to the United States and Canada, but Starbucks does need to keep in mind that more and more people are brewing their coffee at home in premium espresso and coffee makers because of the economy.

The bottom line is that it is more worthwhile to invest in a home brewing system than to sit in line in the Starbucks drive-through on a daily basis. It just makes sense.

Starbucks Introduces Fair Trade Coffee To Ireland and the UK

If you are not familiar with the term Fair Trade coffee, then it is a wonderful business practice that guarantees coffee farmers fair wages so that they can focus on the quality of their coffee crops. Starbucks is now introducing Fair Trade cappuccinos and lattes to Ireland and the UK within all of their espresso beans. All cappuccinos, mochas, and lattes served in these countries will be with beans that are 100% certified as Fair Trade.

This is a part of a global effort on the behalf of Starbucks to contribute to small farm coffee growers so that they can adhere to better business practices. This will also help them to invest in their local farming communities to promote their coffee economy to produce better coffee crops. What this means to you as a coffee drinker is that this is going to guarantee a higher quality in your cup of Joe, especially since there are so many coffee farmers all over the world to compete with.

When coffee is grown as certified Fair Trade, it allows the farmer to have fair wages to improve their environmental and agricultural practices. They can then invest more money in their coffee production, meaning that they may have the possibility in the future to produce even more coffee crops as a result. If you are in the UK or Ireland, then you can count on going to Starbucks for a delicious cappuccino, as well as a cup of coffee that is good for the coffee farming economy!

Is Starbucks Slashing Prices?

This may actually be the day that pigs fly, but there are reports of Starbucks cutting back on their prices all over the nation. There is, of course, a small catch, which is that they will also be raising the prices on some items to make up for it. Boo!

The difference is nominal, and you may not even notice it, but they will be reducing prices on small lattes and coffee is by 5 to 10 cents. However, they will raise prices on frappuccinos and other more complex drinks by up to $.25. Starbucks is definitely feeling the hit of the economy, especially since other chains are trying to rival them in the convenient coffee-to-go business. One of these is McDonald's, who recently introduced their McCafe beverages as a cheaper alternative to a coffee house drink.

If you are a Starbucks fan, this may be great news for you, but even greater news would be in purchasing a quality home coffee maker to save you more cash by brewing at home!

How Did Coffee Become Popular?

Coffee has a deep and dark history, but in the past few decades, there have been different trends contributing to coffee's popularity.

In the 70s and 80s, coffee became increasingly popular in the US because of the marketing of percolators. This was a device that everyone wanted to have within their own home, but it turned out that it was not so easy to use to make a simple coffee brew.

From there, people moved on to the gratification of instant coffee because it allowed them to have a cup of Joe within just a few seconds. There were so many brands of instant coffee available on the market at that time to satiate consumer demand, including several multimillion dollar marketing campaigns to fight out who was the best of the best in instant coffee producers.

This type of instant appeal is exactly what made room for all of the coffee houses that are popular today. This is precisely why so many American coffee drinkers want to sit in a Starbucks line for up to 15 minutes just to get an quick latte or cappuccino made to their liking. Can you blame them?

A Coffee Flavored ICEE?

Are you getting brain freeze just thinking about it? I myself am drooling because I've always been a fan of the ICEE beverages, ever since I was a kid. I am used to them coming in wild colors like red, blue, and yellow, but I think that coffee will be a fantastic alternative. ICEE is teaming up with the Javo Beverage company to produce these fast and frozen coffee beverages in any location that already sells ICEEs.

I personally am thinking that ICEE is now going to give Starbucks a run for their money, especially since McDonald's already tried to do the same by introducing cheaper and more convenient coffee to go beverages. This is the time in our economy that people still want delicious and fast coffee, but they also don't want to pay five dollars per latte any more.

The flavors that you have to look forward to courtesy of a brain freeze are caramel latte and mocha latte. Mmm!

Will Starbucks Now Serve Alcohol?

To me, alcohol and coffee shops do not mix, especially since so many people hit up their local coffee house because they don't want to be a part of the bar scene. Whether they are underage or just not a fan of alcohol, many people will go to a coffee shop on a Friday night to hear some relaxing live music and sip a latte. There are still others who prefer to go to a more upbeat bar atmosphere that is much louder to have several drinks with a group of friends. Currently, there are stores owned by Starbucks in Seattle that sell Starbucks coffee, but they do not have the Starbucks name or logo on the store. These specific stores are testing out serving beer and wine in their locations, especially since they already do host live music and poetry readings.

This may or may not be a good idea for coffee shop fans, depending on if they are going to the café for the solace of avoiding alcohol altogether. On the other hand, if you do have a group of friends that wants to go out to a coffee shop when you are really craving a beer, then you can now have the best of both worlds! Who will win?

Starbucks Now Has Instant Coffee?

Oh, yes, and Nescafé is not happy at all. I don't blame them either because Starbucks already dominates the complete coffee market in the US, and Nescafé has made their own name in producing instant coffee. The new Starbucks instant coffee is called Via, and it is currently available in London, Chicago, and Seattle. It comes in single serving packets and is sold in sets of three or twelve, and it will be available online later in the year. Nescafé actually launched several ad war campaigns in the same cities of Chicago and Seattle where Via is available that looked like a direct attack on Starbucks because the ads used the same format and font. Hopefully they get the results that they are looking for since it has been proven that attacking ads do boost sales completely. Nescafé is pointing out the fact that Starbucks is producing the same type of instant coffee at four times the cost of what they charge. Only time will tell who wins this war with dominating in instant coffee, and all I can tell you is that Americans love convenience so this should be another popular product produced by Starbucks.

Coffee is a Growing Trend in Asia!

The Asian culture in the past has seen to be stereotyped by their love for fine teas, but the latest news is that coffee culture as a whole is on the rise in Asia. The biggest countries contributing to this are Indonesia, China, and the Philippines, and it is supposed to be because of the fact that Asians are bringing back these coffee habits from their visits to Europe and the US. I myself am always happy when I am served a steaming pot of tea at a Chinese restaurant, but more power to all of these Asian countries for making delicious coffee become a part part of their culture! Most Asian cities are actually leaning toward Starbucks, probably because they see most celebrities in the media drinking from these chains. A shameless plug! Regardless of the reason for this turn of events, I am more than happy to see the love of coffee spread worldwide and infecting another continent. Mwahahaha.

Is Starbucks Anti-Union?

You may have heard recently about the whole Starbucks debacle where a Starbucks in Minneapolis is actually being charged with 17 counts of labor rights violations. Shocking! As it turns out, this is actually not Starbucks's first rodeo because they were recently charged under the same counts and convicted in a federal court in New York. Basically, Starbucks has been hurting due to their decline in sales from the recession so they are laying off and cutting hours, while expecting the remaining employees to bear the brunt of the workload. The employees then formed a union to protect themselves, and Starbucks has been allegedly treating them unfairly and trying to bust up their union practices. This seems shocking in this day and age, but maybe it goes hand-in-hand with all of the trends that we are seeing in home coffee brewing that been on the rise lately. Is it time to become your own barista?

Starbucks Fails in Australia!

What can you find in the Land Down Under? Nary a Starbucks for miles! Isn’t that odd, and a little delightful? It turns out that the Aussies are on their A games because they have been educating and developing their own coffee counter culture for years that beats most countries coffee drinking habits in terms of sophistication and class. So while you may be looking all glazed over in line for the Starbucks drive through, your Aussie friend on the other side of the world is concocting his or her own authentic espresso drink from the finest beans available. Don’t you feel jealous?

The Starbucks vs. McDonalds Debate

Unless you have recently had your head under a large rock, then you may notice that there is some hot competition between the Starbucks and McDonalds locations out there. McDonalds has begun offering espresso coffee drinks, and Starbucks has followed that up with adding more fast food breakfast sandwiches to its fare. The good part in all this is that you no longer have to go to two separate fast food places on the way to work, but as far as quality goes, I, in my biased opinion recommend you use your own espresso machine and barista skills to blow them all out of the water. Just sayin’.
