How Does Coffee Benefit The Skin?

If you have been shopping for beauty products lately, you may have noticed that many contain coffee as a leading ingredient. Here is why:

Coffee contains antioxidants, which are necessary to topically treat the complexion and neutralize any damage below the surface. This prevents premature wrinkles!
• The caffeine in coffee can be used within beauty products as a vasodilator to constrict blood vessels. This works to treat rosacea by reducing redness in the skin.
• The caffeine in coffee can also be used to treat cellulite because it tightens the skin and pushes water from the surface to eliminate the cottage cheese effect.
• Coffee is used well in soap because it also neutralizes stubborn odors, like garlic, fish, and onions.

Extra Ideas For Used Coffee Grounds

Being a green coffee lover is a wonderful thing because it allows you to be creative in your uses of recycling your used coffee grounds. Here are some of the best ideas:

Gardening: Coffee grounds work as a helpful fertilizer, so using used coffee grounds in your compost will help your radishes and carrots grow even better.
Cat Repellent: Even if you are a cat lover, you probably don't want them using your garden as a litter box. Used coffee grounds will work to make cats understand that your garden is off-limits.
Removing Odors: If you have a nasty smell in your sink, then pour in a half a cup of used coffee grounds, and follow it with 5 cups of boiling water. This will help to push the coffee grounds through your pipes to clean out the smell completely.
Dye: Placed used coffee grounds in a filter, and then soak them in hot water. This will make a dye solution that you can use to color fabric, paper, or Easter eggs brown.

Be good to the earth and start recycling your used coffee grounds!

Coffee Home Beauty Remedies

If you are always on the lookout for an easy home beauty remedy involving ingredients from your kitchen cabinets, then you are in luck because coffee is at the top of the list! I am going to share with you a simple recipe to make a coffee exfoliating face mask. Here is what you'll need:

  • 1/4 cup used coffee grounds, cooled
  • 1 egg white

See how simple it is already? Make sure that you are using used coffee grounds that have been recently brewed within about 30 minutes, and then mix them thoroughly with your egg white. Massage the mixture onto your face, and allow it to dry completely. You will feel your skin tightening, and this is mainly because of the caffeine in the coffee that is used as a vasodilator to constrict blood vessels and make your face feel firmer. When you are finished, all you have to do is rinse well with warm water, and get ready to see your beautiful and youthful reflection!

Are You Ready To Wear Your Coffee?

This is such a fantastic concept, and I am surprised that it has not been thought of earlier, but Jason Chen of Taiwan has created a clothing line using discarded coffee grounds. This is specifically a sportswear line, and the fabric is formulated in such a way that it uses about 1 cup of coffee grounds for several garments.

Since it is a sportswear line, it is lightweight and easy to wear. It also works to wick away moisture from your skin, so it keeps you from smelling badly and being drenched in sweat when you are working out. This is an eco-friendly clothing line, and these garments are best for active and outdoor wear. The fabric is breathable, and it is also UV resistant, so you will get a great run for your money.

Apparently, the creator had the idea for his coffee ground clothing line when he was sipping a cup of Joe at Starbucks, and I am loving it. The only drawback I can think of is that you will not get a contact high from the caffeine in the coffee while wearing the clothes. I wish!

Coffee is a Cellulite Cure

There is nothing better than having a hot cup of Joe - unless you are able to use it as a beauty remedy, that is! Now you can brew yourself up a fresh pot of coffee, and then also use the old coffee grounds to apply directly to your skin to shrink the appearance of cellulite. Yes, this really works, and this is something that you should do 2 to 3 times per week. The best way to achieve this is to massage the old coffee grounds into your skin within the area of cellulite concern, and you will want to cover the area up with Saran wrap to keep it from being messy, and leave for about half an hour.

Another more conventional and less messy way to do this is to look for some of the newer beauty products coming out using these exact ingredients, coffee and caffeine, to work as a vasodilators and shrink the blood vessels in the areas that have cellulite. Caffeine will also work to push water out of these fat cells, which causes the cottage cheese look of cellulite, so you have a smoother and more sculpted body overall. Delicious!

Use Coffee for Beauty!

If you are a do-it-yourself beauty lover who is always looking for interesting home remedies, then I have several to offer you as the best uses for coffee within your home skin care routine. Not only will you smell good, but you will also look good too! The first easy method is to mix a third of a cup of used coffee grounds with an egg white, and blend it into a scrub that you can use to cleanse your face with. Another idea is to brew a strong shot of espresso and apply it to your dry hair. You will leave it for 15 minutes, and rinse well to add shine and softness to your hair easily. Another great tip is that if you have a fishy or garlicky smell that you cannot get off your hands from cooking, then you can use old coffee grounds to rub over your hands as if you are washing them normally, and the odors will be neutralized. These are just some great home beauty ideas that I have come across using coffee, but please comment, and let me know some of your own!
