What Temperature Should You Serve Your Coffee At?

September 29, 2009 by Bethany Ramos

thermometerTemperature is not necessarily an opinion anymore when you are talking about coffee. Many people love to enjoy their Java scalding hot, and others prefer it to be at room temperature. So what is the best temperature range to enjoy your coffee at?

As you may remember, there was a lawsuit against McDonald’s years ago where a customer was scalded by spilling hot coffee on themselves. McDonald’s did lose the lawsuit because they were serving their coffee at a range of 195°F to 205°F. However, the ideal coffee drinking temperature should be at 155°F to 175°F. There is a significant difference there! When you serve your coffee too hot, it will cause the essential oils to evaporate, which will directly affect the taste and aroma of your cup of Joe.

Take the time to temp your coffee before you drink it to ensure that you are sipping the finest Java product available to you!
